By mostly recruiting African athletes instead of actually developing their own talent are embarrassing to the sport. It reduces coaching to nothing more than buying wins, while real coaching is about teaching, developing, and elevating the athletes you already have. Programs that succeed only by importing talent, without building culture or growth, send the message that they can’t actually coach and that hurts the integrity of the sport.
Coaches at the college level (especially big universities) are expected to win and retain their jobs by doing so. Their primary function lies there and not in development. You are living in some world that is long gone (if it ever existed).
And how much revenue does cross country and track bring these schools?
You mean buying 25,26 year old Africans doesn’t mean he can coach.

Where were you guys 50 years ago when we needed you. LOL.
Can't blame Dave. He is coaching in Oklahoma. He could not get Americans to study there. Look at their politics, their beliefs, their thinking. Who would want that to be associated with that?
He originally was only going to recruit American kids, but no one wanted to go there so give him a break.
No he’s to blame for trafficking foreign athletes that are 26 and never used a computer before showing up to campus. Pathetic coach
Coming from a former assistant who had an hard time getting a job after OSU ( most leave coaching ) because working for Dave Smith and for programs like this is a joke. Even as an assistant, you’re not respected and you’re not learning anything. Instead of being mentored and developed, you’re just stuck in a system that values shortcuts over real coaching. In the long run, it can hurt your career more than help it
sounds like you can't coach anything worth dog sh*tz
It’s beyond embarrassing and only hurts the sport. These coaches should be ashamed of themselves.
You Are So Wrong Oklahoma State has ALWAYS HAD GREAT COACHES
1. Ed Gallagher
2. Art Griffin
3. Myron Roderick
4. Tom Chesbro
5. Joe Seay
6. John Smith (My Friend and Former Teammate at Oklahoma State) Considered The Greatest Wrestler EVER
7. David Taylor
EVERY ONE OF THEM Are Considered GREAT COACHES
I noticed your user name Smith A Coaches Ruin Sport, Lets Look at His Credentials as A Wrestler was A 2 time NCAA Champion and also 2nd as a Sophomore, Won his Last 90 Collegiate Matches @ Olympic Gold Medal 1988 and 1992 6 Consecutive World Championships, As A Coach 5 NCAA Team Championships and lots of 2nd and 3rd place finishes, Coached A Bunch of NCAA Champions, and many more Conference Champions and All Americans, NOTE Oklahoma State was His First and Only Coaching Job. How is That Not Great?
I Challenge you to do better.

Dave Smith doesn’t coach, he traffics athletes and you have nothing to learn but how to buy Kenyans , Moroccans , etc. and you’re right she or he ( most likely she at OSU) probably can’t coach because they learned nothing at all.

I'm as far left as they come but probably would be willing to go to OSU if I was in HS right now. Being able to tune out people you disagree with politically is a life skill at this point and it's probably better to learn it in college than when you have a boss who is openly extreme at the opposite end of the political spectrum.

His Name Is John Smith, Not Dave Smith, In Oklahoma John Smith is A Living Legend
I agree that the number of internationals should be limited. But Dave Smith has proven he can coach amazing Americans as well.
He had two women's alumni make Team USA this year - Taylor Roe and Sinclaire Johnson. He developed a Lithuanian athlete, Galvydyte, from 2:09 to 1:57. He coached Kaela Edwards to an NCAA record as well.
Joshua Thompson was one of the top Americans for nearly a decade. American Ryan Schoppe anchored 2 DMRs to NCAA Championships.
Musau is international but Smith developed him from 13:54 to 12:59 in 2 years.
Somehow NAU and Mike Smith always get a pass for all the international athletes they use...
Couldn't have said it better myself.
I hope it's not because Daves's internationals tend to have dark skin.
Why isn't there a thread ripping my alma mater Princeton or Harvard?

Have you looked at the roster?
That's not an accurate statement.
The majority of their recruits aren't from Africa. Hell the majority of their internationals aren't even from Africa. They have the following internationals on their track roster:

Where did the poster say anything about generating revenue? Are you suggesting that if the coach took only American athletes the school would then generate revenue?
As I said, it's not against the rules and it's annoying but these coaches are trying to win and that's an easier way to do it.
Look at UNM, I guarantee the AD there is super happy with Gauson because XC/distance brings equal or more athletic notoriety to that school than any of their other sports.
