And now Sawe is alone up front
And now Sawe is alone up front
No more pacers for Sawe before the 25 km. With the hot weather, it will be too difficult for the WR. If he run under 2:02, it will already be excellent in those conditions.
He's pronating a lot. He definitely needs stability shoes !
Running in the Evo Pro 2 I think.
he probably got the win given how he burned up the competition, but need to see how he kicks it down
1:11:32 for Sawe at 25 km (vs 1:11:08 for Kipchoge in 2022). He manages to keep his very fast pace.
Hutchings: "The ghost of Kiptum still 30 sec behind him..."
Overpronating for these uberlow weight dudes is totally fine, it's a body mechanism for less impact.
More so in super shoes.
Chep pronated like a horse in spikes.
Literally panning to the wheelchairs only when they finished. even the commentators stunned that Marcel Hug got defeated cause they haven't looked at the wheelchairs the whole time
It’s 75 F in Berlin???? And he went out in 60:30???
Fantastic thing about this broadcast. Minimal wheelchair content

Why would they look at the wheelchairs any longer than that?
I hope I'm wrong and Sawe gets the course record. Kiptum was a different beast IMHO.
But I believe this newish trend of going out at suicidal pace is a path for victory (and cash) and not the proper stategy for the fastest potential time. That would be the closest to even splits.

It was not the strategy of Kiptum who had always a faster second half with a terrible acceleration after the 30k. Sawe is very, very strong and could beat the WR in the future I believe but I agree that Kiptum was a different beast. I've never seen a guy run a marathon like him.
1:26:06 for Sawe at 30k (this is 2:01:07 pace).

Yes, alone with 5 pacers, then 4, now down to 3. Basically a paced time trial. Not very exciting.

A sub 2:02 would be phenomenal today. Those behind are also slowing - chase group of 3 with Chimdessa Debele, Guye Adola, Daniel Mateiko around 2:04:15 pace
Sawe is 2 minutes and 15 seconds ahead of 3 runners at the 30th km. It looks like Mengesha who was second has give up between the 25th and the 30th.
Are they not showing the women's race? No one has posted about it.
A lead pack of 3 women including Rosemary Wanjiru has hit halfway in 69:07.
