I've always thought Haile is the most beautiful name. Does anyone know what it means in his language?

I think there was a Jeff Turning Heart at Adams State in the early 1980s.
Suzy Favor (before her marriage to Mark Hamilton name) was an oddly cool name.
Always liked the name Ed Eyestone.
Middle distance runner Stephanie Best.
Canadian and ex-Cal 200-meter sprinter Atlee Mahorn.
Writer and runner Mike Sandrock. Sounds like it's straight out of the Flintstones.
Weldon's name is kinda cool.
Or the name of Armando Quintanilla of Mexico.
Jearl Miles-Clark needs no explanation.
There must be many others.
Jochen Dieckfoss
Jonathan Kandie
Orlando Pizzolato
Chandra Cheeseboro
Roger Kingdom
Mike Shine
Ambrose Burfoot
Wesley Wolffe (a college teammate of mine)
There used to be a girl from UC Irvine who was top five at NCAA XC Nationals back in the early 90's...Buffy Rabbitt!
Seton Hall University had a guy named Prince Licorish back in the '80's.
I ran the 100 once in a dual meet in high school. The winner was named Jesse Spikes.
Haile Selassie means "might of the trinity" - it was the name taken by Tafari Makonnen, who became prince, and later Emperor, of modern Christian Ethopia when he was crowned in 1930. He died in 1975.
I've also seen references to Haile meaning "my energy" in Amharic, but that sounds a bit too contrived.
I'm not sure what the "Geb" prefix on his name refers to, but it might be similar to the Celtic tradition of "Mc" and "Mac" before a family name, meaning "son of".
You can also see this in Kenyan names like Kiptanui (versus Tanui), Kipketer, etc.
Martin
this guy has the fastest name i have ever heard of
Cricket Batz solid name. Sounds very familiar, can you jog my memory Ray?
Oscar Mayer IV ran for Western Washington University in the mid-90s. I think he ran the 400/800.
I remember racing against Villanova's Finn Kelley and Louis (Lew-ee) Quintanna.
Joe, I like your list. Had a college teammate back in the day at EMU whose name is, and I'm not making this up, Peter Baulls. He was a middle-distance guy from one of the Carribean islands. He was a nice guy hung w/a tough name to live up to.
I always thought that James Jett was pretty cool and appropriate.
James Jett took this long to make the list?
I'll add Delight Chambers, Stetson Steele and Abdul Alzindani

Cricket Batz was the girl's distance coach at UPenn up until last year (not sure what she's doing now). She ran for Penn in the early-mid 80s. Had some decent success at coaching, including a nationally ranked team in the late 80s. She's married to esteemed high school coach Steve Shaklee (Cherokee HS, NJ).
