Vanhoy and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo choke when it counts

This dude is Vanhoys only all-American in the past three bloody years! Seriously, it's kind of bloody underwhelming.

Hey, just an FYI - Cal Poly tuition is $39k for out-of-state students and $30 for in-state. Surprisingly affordable, right? Despite recruiting top California talent, the coaching hasn't improved much under the current coach, who has been there for three years now.

Cal Poly is almost GUARANTEED to score more points than NAU at the NCAA championships. Current score:

Cal Poly - 4 (from hammer)

NAU - 3 (25 year old Mullarkey in 10k)

Cal Poly has McCarthy in the 800m final as the returning indoor 3rd place finisher (estimate 2 points on the safe side, he only has to beat 2 people in the 9 person field to get 2 points).

Can Mullarkey and Bosley in the 5k score a combined 3 points to tie Cal Poly? Probably not -Mullarkey barely qualified out of regionals and Bosley looked like crap in the 10k.

I take full responsibility for my biblical downfall. That does not fall on any coach. Fact is Ryan Vanhoy is a man of integrity and merit, and his faith in his athletes kept me in the sport much longer than I would have stayed otherwise.

Give this man the respect his CV deserves. And go back to sleep.

Dude's nothing but a troll who's never focused a day of his life on anything meaningful. The SEC crowd even had a damn nickname for him, but I'd probably get kicked out for spreading such info. Guy's a damn joke, one of the least respected coaches in the NCAA. The dude will stab anyone in the back.

Our dear Vanhoy, the so-called "amazing coach" has managed to qualify only one guy to NCAA's in a whole span of three years at Cal Poly. For all his grand claims and promises, when it comes right down to it, his team choked at regionals. They're more proficient at choking the chicken than mounting a proper challenge.

After my. Athlete got back from a recruiting trip to CPSLO. She was keen initially, but let me tell you, she was completely put off by the obnoxious attitude from the guys' team. Honestly, she was disgusted. And, Vanhoy was there, spewing trash about her other school choices. We'd heard rumors about him doing this kind of thing, but man, it was a surprise to see it firsthand. It's true, and it's damn disappointing.

How did you see it firsthand if you weren’t even there in person?

1500m: 5 of the school top 6 all time performance done in 2024/2025

5000m: 4 of the school top 7 all time performance done in 2024/2025

Steeple: 2 of the school top 5 all time performance done in 2025

Then, yes it’s underwhelming

Not including food, housing etc. With those fees maybe another $10k each year.

The scum AD at Cal Poly who was just forced to “leave” ( AKA fired) was at Ole Miss in the past so he brought in Vanhoy. Vanhoy is just an average coach, nothing impressive.

The guy does suck, the guys and gals that improve under him are undertrained talent. A good coach can take you to the next level, a good high school coach can take you where Vanhoy will get you. On the plus though I didn’t know he’ll have faith in you! Most coaches don’t do that wow! Seriously every compliment you gave him was just another way of saying he’s not a scumbag. So I have to put respect on the clowns name because he’s not a scumbag. Got it.
