Who wants to watch a 14:40 jog in the 5000? It's great for the runners as you can earn 100k for a light workout, but for fans it's boring imo.
This was no more boring than watching everyone strung out in a single file line running 12:50 pace. A lot of DL 5000s are just a couple guys way in the front, a handful of people in a second pack, and a trickle of people between them. Occasionally there's a fight in the last 400 for the win, but usually not. From a racing perspective, there was so much more uncertainty and suspense than a typical paced DL race which are just basically "run as fast as you can for 4600m and then kick". Watching a bunch of guys run 11 laps with no lead changes just isn't exciting no matter how fast it is.
