I agree with you, and I assume you take such a reasonable approach to other issues. How prevalent is your view among other elected Republican officials that you know? Because at the Federal level, it seems many blindly support Trump and whatever nonsense he advocates. I’m an independent, but I have family members that are registered Republicans and do not at all support Trump (they wrote-in or even voted for Harris).

Gang members, friends and family of gang members, associates of gang members, people with gang tattoos, or just plain old illegal immigrants. Frankly the details don't matter to me, just one question: Does having these people here make our country safer and more prosperous? The answer is obviously no, so deporting them is justified. We have literally 10s of millions of illegal immigrants here, there is no time or resources to hold an OJ style trial for every single one. Regular people just want safe neighborhoods for them and their families and the dems need to understand that if they want to win again.

I agree with that logic at an intellectual level, but do you not realize he was 1 year old? So he had no choice in the matter as to whether he illegally immigrated or not.

I'm all for a wall and have long thought it was stupid to reward people for illegal behavior (by giving their children citizenship and schooling) but Luis had no choice as to his immigration status.

What do you want him to do? Self-deport himself at 1?

The solution should be - if you've been here for 5 years or more with no problems, you can stay. If not, you leave. Anyone coming illegally moving forward isn't allowed. No birthright citizenship moving forward and no schooling of illegals moving forward. We can't keep quietly allowing and encouraging illegal immigration.

American, believe it or not, is still somehow still the greatest country on earth. BILLIONS of people would move here tomorrow if you gave them the option.

And by the way, please don't call me racist. I think what Luis's parents did was brilliant. If I was living in Central or South America, I'd love to think I had the guts to chase the American dream in the USA. Smart move by them just like it was a smart move by some unknown relative of mine to come here.

These types of dismissive clap-backs might get you a lot of reddit upvotes, but they are unlikely to win back the support of your average middle class rust belt Obama voter who you will need to win in 2028.

I live in a small town in the south, quite far from Mexico. It was historically in the high 90s white in terms of demographics. Last time I went to Walmart, I was about the only person speaking English. The average American is not a Nazi for feeling uncomfortable about being made a minority in their own country. Further digging in your heels in on this point will just make your already falling numbers worse.

It’s a confusing time for those who see themselves as Republicans but reject Trump. One friend put it succinctly, “it looks like nothing can change to get the right back on track as long as Trump is around.”

In my area it’s probably only 50% of Republican voters who actually like Trump, but basically all elected officials support him because they’ll get primaried or lose the general if they don’t act gaga for Trump (or at least think they will).

You’d think someone in all the time he was fortunate enough to be here, would have thought to get him legal status somehow.

Literally the only practical way for him to get PR/Citizenship is he married somebody. There is no other pathway for DACA kids to become "legal".
