Tim Rowberry sounds like someone would sound if they were pretending to coach Sifan Hassan (conspiracy theory alert)

Can anyone who knows Tim explain why he talks like he wasn't really fully part of the coaching process? I lost count of the number of times he said, "I think that maybe Sifan was doing ..." or "I believe we were supposed to run a ..."

Who talks like that? It isn't like we are asking him about the 1960s. This is stuff that he did with Sifan during the last five years. This stuff should be burned into his memory.

If you were looking for a "tell" that someone was not really making the decisions, that is how they would talk. Granted, Sifan might be calling the shots and his coaching might be remote half the year, and that would account for it.

You think?! Just another know-it-all LR type who thinks that they would do a better job. This is what is wrong with this place - 3rd degree over a silly podcast. He probably didn't take Gault seriously (who does?), so is going through the motions, just to get through the interview. Yet you are trying to paint a psychological profile of the guy. She isn't even an American, so why do you care?! Also, Salazar isn't the only coach in the world, and is only a legend in the minds of Americans, no one else has him on that pedestal.

I more interpreted that as Hassan is eccentric and hard to rein in as a coach. He might tell her one thing, she does another. I didn’t get that sense with Yomif who he coached before and after. I bet he had a much simpler task. Like he mentioned he told Hassan to do a basic run in Park City and she decided to run up and down an entire mountain there. Why you ask? Because she likes doing crazy things. I don’t think he takes this personally but he is constantly tweaking things on the fly because she may decide to go rogue a bit.

100% right. Hassan is insane and not following any 6 month plan mapped out by the second by some OCD control freak coach. Tim is perfect for her and she knows it. He was very clear that Hassan just does sh-t, and then he has to come up with a new plan for the week on the fly based on whatever nutty thing she does. They are a perfect pair and it’s awesome for the sport.
