1. The pure scientific route, proven to be the most economical. Even pace the whole way set to 12:35. Passing the lights just in the final lap, cooked but diving deep into the well knowing a WR is on the line.
2. An approach fitting his running style. Set the lights under WR pace and pick up with 2 laps to go, speeding up gradually to a balls to the wall finish.
I think both ways result in a very similar time, under 12:35 but not 12:30
12:33 is my guess, and it would be an epic feat. 12:35 is above 7:20

I didn't say that about the 2k and 3k records. I didn't think he would break Komen's record because it was one of the most doped records in the books. It confirms for me that Ingebrigtsen is just as doped. That notwithstanding, like quite a few other have argued here, his wheelhouse appears to be the 2k-2m. The 5k is significantly longer. Although his relative shorter distance speed gives him an advantage in a tactical race I doubt he has the endurance to take Cheptegei's mark. Cheptegei is a 5k-10k runner; Ingebrigtsen isn't. The 5k is a tougher distance for him. Given his oft-stated desire for the records, if he had been able to take a shot at the 5k record he would have by now.

He didn't run the HM a day after the 1500 DL final. He has also claimed the HM is his best distance.
I hate to say it but Armstronglivs is right. Jakob toying with the Ethiopians in an event they dominate on the circuit at the absolute highest level on the championship stage shows that the 5k just isn’t in his wheelhouse. Honestly, it’s not getting him anywhere. I think he should drop the 5k.
