Kerr will never recover from the savage homestretch beating he received from Cole in Paris. That victory by King Cole put him alone at the summit while Kerr could only wipe the tears from his eyes and stare upward in jealous awe.
That said, whereabouts was Nuguse the past few weeks? He hasn’t exactly been laying it on the line.

Yea, that Olympic Silver must really sting. Eye roll..

Wow. That’s the quickest I’ve seen Khamis give so many downvotes to a post in a while. Long live Hocker, the King. And yes, Yared can be a bit sketchy.
You could see from the start that he wasn’t going to just sit back and let others dictate the race. He positioned himself right away in a place from which he could win. This was a huge step for Nuguse!
In what universe is sitting on someone for 1480 meters not letting others dictate the race
You have 57 upvotes, so I think you can't be entirely wrong, but "dictating the race" means you are being bullied into doing something you didn't want to do in terms of your race.
If you want to sit and kick but it become an ultra-fast time trial, then others are telling you how the race is going to go.
If you want it to go fast but everyone else is jogging, so you end up jogging, the you are getting dictated to.
I don't think Nuguse let other dictate the race because he got the rail, right on Jakob, never let anyone else move him from that spot, and had the race he wanted to have. It went the way he planned it out on paper. He wanted to draft off Jakob and he did what he wanted.
The best runners can dictate the race from any spot in the field.
Post of the year tbh.
I agree. When Jakob is sitting in the very back, relaxing letting everyone fuss over the pace and position in a championship 5000, he is still having a presence in the field even if he is not leading.
Still, as much as I loved seeing Yared win today, I would hesitate to call what he was doing "dictating the race", it seems a little strong. I think it would be more apt to simply describe it as putting himself in the best position to strike when he needed to.
Remember when Nuguse won the Zurich DL over Josh Kerr last year too? I remember…
(To be clear, I’m not saying Nuguse mistimes his peaks or wins when it doesn’t matter. I’m saying this wasn’t exactly unprecedented or new ground for him—he can win races.)

That other poster wasn't claiming that Nuguse dictated the race, just that he wasn't dictated to. He wasn't force to run a race plan that he didn't want to run.
kerr certainly getting some deserved end-of-season hate. his peak season did not live up to the billing
but jakob losing to Kerr, Hocker, and now Nuguse!??? unreal. jakob living his best next-guy life right now
Jakob has several DL wins (including a 3:26), a gold medal and a 3,000 meter world record in a summer after a sub-optimal buildup.
Kerr has a silver and a DL win after apparently perfect buildup and perfectly timed training.
This game is getting old. Jakob is putting up LeBron James-style numbers (which, sure, includes some losses, but that's sports)
I'd be pretty happy if I were Kerr. A good indoor campaign with a WR. A DL win against a good field in a PB and NR. A sliver medal at the olympics.
This was his worst race.
Is he better than Jakob? Certainly not overall. Certainly not as a week-end-week out DL runner. As a championship runner in the 1500 - he's one of the few who are in the conversation as the current best.
Jakob has Olympic Gold and two WC silvers. Kerr has Olympic Silver and Bronze and WC Gold. Head to head at championships they are 2-2. With Jakob having the early edge, and Kerr having the edge as of late.
Pretty close. Outside of championship racing it's Jakob by a mile (no pun intended).
Jeez, the number of upvotes on this shows the number of clueless casual fanboys on these boards. As any actual 1500m fan knows, this is completely untrue- Kerr has beaten Jakob in three of their last four races. Regardless of who you prefer, let's stick to reality please.
Lol—I got it wrong—a bit overzealous from seeing Kerr get crushed by the Americans. Jakob is an honorary American for letting Hocker pass in Paris.
Kerr has ONLY WON two of the last three against Ingibrigtsen.
Since Kerr’s disappointing performance in Paris, Jakob has won an Olympic Gold medal and broken a 28 year old world record.
If you think Kerr's 1500 final performance was disappointing, how do you rate Jakob's 1500 final performance.
