I don't think Cole Hocker was beatable in that race. I don't know if Jacob paid attention to him in the rounds, but if he did, he should have been worried. I think if Jacob runs a less Kamikaze style race, he takes Bronze. Not sure that matters much to him.
Hocker is beatable if you don't leave it to a kick. Hocker can beat anyone in a kick. But if Jakob wound it up from 800m out no one but Kerr would have been able to hang with him
Not so sure about this. Hocker just proved that he can win off of a hard pace. And if he hadn't lost momentum on the first move along the rail, it wouldn't have been as close as it was.
Hocker was racing to win and it showed. Jackob was racing to beat Kerr, and that left the door open.

I think Hocker would have been able to hang with him. Probably Nuguse too.

Yep, Hocker and Nuguse were still there and had strong kicks in a 3:27 race. The world record is 3:26. I don't think Jacob was capable of taking the kick out of those guys.

maybe so but at least Jakob would have medaled that way. I think after taking it out in 54 high jakob should have slowed down to 58 to regroup. That would have been fast enough for him to maintain the lead or he would have been fine with someone else taking it. Then he should have made a move with 600-700m to go
Very little chance. The world has caught up to him. Run sub-3:29 on even splits in every Olympics until 2024, you win without challenge. But now multiple runners match that pace, then kick furiously.
If he wants to win from the front, he's gotta go sub 3:27. And apparently, he cannot do that, not without pacing lights.
I find it refreshing and way more interesting that they are actually racing each other. All the pacers and lights is like an AI race. Humans racing each other mono-e-mono is the way to go.
I love how you need to do convoluted tactics to try to squeeze another win for Jakob.
Whereas for Cole it is very simple. Be with the pack with 1 lap to go, and then unleash a kick nobody can match, and win. Game over.
It is hard to admit for some maybe, but in a championship race, today, Cole can win in most scenarios. And now he has the confidence to do so...And a target on his back.
Maybe we are entering another era of "slow and tactical" 1500m races again.

Ye agreed, thats the only sad part about this. If Jakob actually stops pushing the pace it´s gonna be a wait and kick again
