Bailey gets a prelims leg no matter what I think.

If he runs sub 44.1, he likely gets one in the final. If he doesn't, probably not.

Only interesting scenario would be if he wants a spot on the mixed but doesn't run sub 44.2 first. In that case I would stick with Wilson/Norwood or Deadmon/Norwood

Yeah I guess so. I expect her to be on it though - you can go find her pre-budapest interview from last year from when she said she was gonna be on it. I think Gabby understands that at the end of the day, Olympic gold is Olympic gold and she may as well go for it while she in her prime.

Hopefully he puts it together some time. I remember how he ran 1:14.36 in the 600 at the start of the season last year, and I thought he was about to run 43. Huge talent.

For the mixed 4 x 400, only one.

And the USA traditionally does not have individual 400 runners (or 400H) running the mixed relay before their event. Only the men's and women's 4x400 at the end of the program. And I think unlimited for those.

Nah I can see her running. With Klaver they have 2 elite women. Not sure on the men. I think Klaver ran it at WCs, when she nearly medalled but fell over.

Why is this so difficult for the board putzes to understand. The runners on the mixed relay will come from those entered as part of the relay pool only and not from those entered in individual events.

Sat 3 Aug pm - mixed 4 x 400 final

Sun 4 Aug am - 400mH heats

Tue 6 Aug pm 400H semi

Wed 8 Aug pm 400H final

Fri 10 Aug pm - 4 x 400 final

I think she could do it. 2 1/2 day break after the heats, a day off between semi and final. Then a day off between the 400H final and the 4 x 400.

She might decide you know what? I'd love to win 3 golds, how cool would that be. So she gets the luxury of coming in for the mixed 4 x 400 final, the other places are taken by 4th and 5th at the US trials (women Brown and Hayes both run heats, slower of the 2 subs out for final, mens Norwood and Deadmon run heat and final). An issue could arise if there's an injury, like what happened to Gabby Thomas.

Here’s how I would probably do it for the men:

1. Deadman & Quincy Wilson mixed relay semi
2. Deadmon & Quincy Wilson on mixed relay final
3. Hall, Norman, Bailey open 400
3. Deadmon, Bailey, Quincy or hurdler, Norwood 4x400 semi
4. Norman - Hall - Norwood - Benjamin 4x400 final

SML isn't going to run but, yes, she would wipe the floor with Bol on an anchor leg.

I just don't see the logic in Deadmon over Norwood for mixed. You can make the Quincy vs Deadmon argument but I just don't see an area in which Deadmon is better than Norwood.

That includes USA, NCs, Conferences, etc. Today Nike clowns have control over site selection and TV Show content, TV Producer, etc. which has turned our sport into a Nike Infomercial.

I suspect athletes think Olympic gold is Olympic gold only after they have failed to medal or not won gold in their individual events. If they all thought so, the mixed 4x4 would be run by the top 400 specialists- but it is not. Gabby understands fully that this is the best chance she has to win gold in the 200M and will therefore not get an ounce of lactic acid in her legs by running any 400Ms before her specialty.

I hope Cherry recovers as well. He must be gutted. I remember him as the mixed 4x4 anchor, blowing pass the Polish lady anchor. The stadium erupted in cheers for her hoping she would hold on to the lead. Now that 4x4 format was a massively fun.

I think there's a slight difference in mindset going on between countries here. The Netherlands averages one (1) T&F medal per Olympics, the USA over two dozen. The Dutch don't have luxury to just abandon a solid chance at a medal by saving Bol, just so she can get a slightly higher chance at a gold (which is unlikely anyway). Also, the Dutch team are tightknit and there's no way Bol would just ditch her mates like that.

Mixed prelim: Wilson, Brown, Norwood, Little

Mixed final: Deadmon replaces whoever looked worst in prelim, or just run in back.

Men's 4x4 prelim: Wilson, Deadmon, Bailey, Norwood (Norman/Bassitt would run in place of any of these 4 if any of them looked like crap earlier in the week)

Men's 4x4 final: Hall, best of Deadmon/Norwood from prelim, Norman, Benjamin (given their form, I'd be scared having Hall or Wilson running in a crowd)

Women's 4x4 prelim: Hayes, Whittaker, worst in meet of far of Homes/Butler/Ellis (if they aren't THAT bad, if they are, Little runs here), Brown

Women's 4x4 final: Thomas, 2 best in meet so far of Holmes/Butler/Ellis, McLaughlin-Levrone

What happens if one of the two women flop in the prelim? What happened last year was the plan was to replace one of the women but Willie ran so poorly in the prelim that he was replaced for the final.
