4 spots? That's a bit odd to not just let back in all the originals, no? The remaining people who were originally qualified as of a month ago didn't complain loudly enough? I
Some of the 'universality' athletes would have been in on ranking. So it may have been the four that should have been in on ranking before universality was added
Kevin Hanson called it before the trials. “I guarantee US will have 3 Men running the marathon in Paris”
I called it too, because of rankings. Except world athletics tried to throw a curveball and skip the rankings in favor of universality athletes which was not on anyone's radar. Glad they made sure the higher ranked athletes were able to still get in.
Truly great news. Now that he has his charity spot (stripped from guys from countries with more than 3 runners under the standard) he can finally hobbyjog the Olympic marathon on route for a fight for DFL with a guy from Kirghizistan!
You may not be happy about it, and that’s ok, but at least stick to facts. It’s not a charity spot. He earned it through the rules of his country and the Olympics. If your anger is misplaced, redirect it towards trying to change the selection policy in countries you are passionate about. Taking untrue, cheap shots on a message board towards an athlete that qualified under the rules given to him doesn’t get you any closer to your desired end result.
Here’s a question: Zach Panning went all out at the trials with the mindset that he needed the standard or bust. Unfortunately for him, he did bust. It’s clear now that the “standard or bust” mindset was not correct and had he run a more conservative race and come in 3rd he would be running at the olympics right now. Do you think he is kicking himself right now over this?

No because he can hold his head up high knowing he tried to do it the right way.
The US never would have had to keep Albertson in to keep a spot. If they have the 3rd spot, they have the 3rd spot and can give it however they deem fit.
Did you read what I said? The criteria are there. As it stands according to IAAF, Albertson is the 3rd American. Remove him (based on USA criteria), you roll to the next which is Korir. Both on ranking, not time. The 95 spots ( 70+11+4) are then full. There are only 70 qualifiers for the 80 time spots.
I said "IF" Welday had been ahead of Korir on ranking (he is 2 lower) then "IF" USA applied its trial criteria, Korir wouyld not be entitled to it. You would only get 2 spots same as every other country who only qualified 2.
The way it stands now USA have 3 irrespective of Albertson or Korir. Begrijpen??
You don't seem to understand how this works. Albertson would never be "removed". He unlocks a spot by being #84. He doesn't have to be the one to use it. If, say, one spot had been unlocked, the US could have used that spot to send someone like Jim Walmsley if they wanted to (based on their rules, if he ran at trials and won), even with Jim not even being on the Road to Paris list. The spots are unlocked by the people on the list, and then the country can do what they want with those spots. That's all there is to it.
In this case, it doesn't matter who got 3rd at trials. No matter who finished 3rd at trials, Albertson unlocked a spot for them.

Some of the universality spots, yes, but 1-3 of those originally removed athletes (currently unclear based on doping issues with athletes in the top 70) will still not get to go at this point.
I am happy for Korir that he will get to run Paris. But they really need to make it easier for people to figure out who will be in the Olympics, without waiting for the oracle of the rings to let us know. Here on LRC, we have running's most passionate fans, and it seems nobody is really sure how to figure out who will be the entrants based just on times, world rankings, and nationalities. What kind of system is that?
Kipchoge and Bekele get into an ego battle and go out too hard on a tough course. The other favorites follow. Korir hangs back with the second pack and vultures his way to a medal as the lead pack fades. Hey, it could happen!

I think that they should use the list as they said and add in the Universality spots after as extra runners.
Also- as countries name their teams take all of the names off the list- example, if Kenya, Ethiopia, and Uganda name their 3 person teams in March, take all other Kenyans, Ethiopians, and Ugandans off the list.
At least this makes it easier to view where other runners stand (so to speak).
It's a confusing process but makes sense. I think they just have to make it a little more straight forward.
