The 10000 is redundant and should not be a track event, but then....neither should the 200, 400H, Steeple or, in swimming, 75% of all events.

T&F shouldn't be overly concerned with redundancy. Three-thousand meters and 3000mSC would be redundant but that's okay.

Swimming in ten lane 50 meter pools is about as bourgeois as it gets. How many counties around the world have a ten lane 50m pool? That stated, S&D, judging by television ratings do about as well as T&F. How is this possible? Numerous events less than ten minutes long. S&D can hype an event before commercial break, hold event, one commercial break then have an upbeat recap.

T&F needs more events less than ten minutes in duration: 4 x 800m, 4 x 200m, 200m low hurdles, possibly 200m dash on straightaway and possibly a couple of medley relays.

You can have a peoples 10K event before the Olympic final. Limit it to say 25,000.

The only 10k I have ever found enjoyable was at the end of an Olympic triathlon.

Megan wasn't born when one of the greatest 10k races on the track at the 2000 Olympics or maybe she should watch the 1964 10k with Mills coming from the clouds to win.
Lucky to be in the stadium that night in Sydney when the 10k final was closer than the 100m final.
She's young.

They were exciting the last two minutes or so.

However tbh we have rarely seen the east Africans do a solid time trial in the 10k if we had barega kejelcha kiplimo aregawi worku ebenyo krop + a fit Mo ahmed and fisher and that would be an insane race

That is her opinion. The 10,000 is not my preferred event to view but have to say I greatly enjoy watching a well contested 10,000m unfold.

She’s right that it is indeed pretty boring to watch. Even if it’s “well contested”, whatever that means, it’s pretty boring unless maybe there’s a photo finish or an upset at the very end. Even a 5K is drying paint for the most part.

The most entertaining 10,000m race ever is the 1987 world athletics championships final. Very entertaining. Lots of drama. The bell ringer thoroughly confused the runners. Go watch it on Youtube.

On the track I lose interest past 800m. I won't watch anything longer.

A race with a city backdrop is already much more entertaining than 25 laps around a track. And I'd imagine a 10k is less likely to come down to a 400m race. It'll separate sooner than that. And no lapped runners either!

This or just do 10k cross. Both would be better and more entertaining. And at the end of the day it's about entertainment.
