You don’t. That explanation isn’t right, no way. My guess is it’s her drink she either missed her mouth or spit up.
Try pouring a drink on a bib and see how well it soaks in...it doesn't. "Spit up" is not an explanation either. It's blood.
And for people that haven't experienced it: it is definitely possible to acquire a fairly gruesome-looking blood-soaked scene on your singlet/shirt/bib without even noticing it until afterwards.
Yes, a slow-oozing abrasion (which is exactly what her coach described), diffusing blood into sweat, could easily create this pattern on a singlet and bib.
As a man, I have had this happen on running shorts and it was GRUESOME. Didn't notice a thing during the race.
All I gotta say is OUCH!!!! I can’t imagine how much that had to burn and hurt late in the race- what I really don’t understand is why when she first sheeted to feel the chafing, why didn’t she at that time remove the gel so it didn’t keep rubbing and get to the point that it did??
It's like some people have never run, let alone raced a hard marathon.

Like Pre, she had enough self-confidence to boldly go to the front and push the pace to break away relatively early.
These trials races were both extra entertaining because we had bold athletes pushing the pace at the front relatively early. That was real racing, trying to get the best out of yourself and having the confidence and guts to believe that your best will be better than what everyone else has. Worked out for Fiona but not Zach, but both of them made the race what it was.

Thank you. It’s either blood seeping through or she ate A LOT of flaming hot Cheetos on the course today.
