Based on the names tagged in the story, it appears Anna Jurew and Mellie Reed were Chavez's pacers. Both of them are part of the Central Park Track Club (Jurew is a member of their International Elite Program too).
Well then they would be the ones who banditted and would be banned from future races, not him. He was legit registered and did he ask them to do that? *shrugs*

NYRR policy: Assistance: Unofficial pacers or other unregistered participants are not permitted on the course, nor are they permitted to provide assistance. A participant who receives assistance during an event from anyone other than official medical personnel may be disqualified.

My point is if they jumped in and ran near him, if the evidence doesn't prove otherwise, he can just claim that these were random people running near him and what control does he have over that?

Yea, who cares. Plus he's the one that has to live with the fact that he needed 2 pacers for 5 miles to run a 3:17 marathon. That's punishment enough.
On his instagram story you can see him hugging his fiancé (looks like maybe in queens), two women in matching black new balance outfits were standing on the side of the road with no bibs. They jumped into the race and started running with him. Later in his story, he reposts a picture of the same women saying they paced him.
I guess I should never be amazed at the sleuths of LetsRun.com. I had seen those 2 women in his feed after the race but no proof they were pacing him but now I confirm what you see.
Surprised he did this but is it the end of the world?
Don't they have a 3 hour pacing group at NYC? Why didn't he just go with them? And looks like he didn't even need pacers back half of race as he missed it by 17 minutes.
Was the pacing in Manhattan or Brooklyn? By the time he was in Manhattan he likely wasn't going sub 3 looking at his splits.
But screw this "controversy" what we really need is a match-race between Rojo and Chris. The masses are clamoring for LetsRun needs to get a social media presence and this is Rojo's chance:)

Punishment enough for me!
Chris needs to break 5 in mile and 3 in marathon. I know he's been trying.
There were photos of them together post-race all hugging.
If the goal for the OP was for people not to do this in the future you seem to have succeeded as I don't see those photos anymore.
Rules don't say you will be DQd. That you may be DQd.
I know the guy from Marathon Investigation has gotten people BQ'd to DQ'd for stuff like this. But why... seriously who cares?
People take assistance from family and friends outside of official aid stations during marathons all the time. It's technically a violation of official rules, but c'mon man. Who cares as long as it's not impacting someone else's race?
You don't want it to become a common practice. Dumb choice on his part as he should be setting a good example as a "spokesperson" in the sport. He can say he's sorry for setting a bad example and everyone can move on. Imagine if even a small percentage the 50,000+ runners started bringing a friend to help pace them thru the race - could be thousands more people running - which can create logistic and planning nightmares for organizers at races. Bandit racing is generally accepted as being a crappy thing to do, so encouraging that behavior is just not smart, esp. when you have lots of teammates (CPTC) running the race legitimately and the race has paced groups.

Because the people the follow Marathon Investigations are 6-8 hour "marathoners" with nothing better to do than and get jealous of the much faster 3-4 hour marathoners.

It's already a fairly common practice you dolt, it's just that no one really cares because 99% of these people aren't vying for a podium spot. If he was paced for the entire race and was in contention for $, then feel free to grab your pitchforks. BUT, that doesn't seem to be the case, and I'm sure he has been alerted and shamed already bc of this post.
End of the world? No. Blatantly stupid on Chavez's part? Absolutely. When you put yourself out there and build up a following, you open the door for dorks like myself and the rest on this board to pick at you for it
As much of a cornball as he is, he's done a ton for the sport in the States. Have the decorum to run the race under the same expectations as everyone else.
Not a controversy, just stupidity from someone who clearly has a lot to learn from the sport
The sport’s biggest influencer is setting a bad example by flagrantly ignoring the rules.
I would have thought that Eliud Kipchoge is a bigger influencer for the sport. But maybe the term "influencer" now refers only to people who become famous without demonstrating accomplishment.
An admitted doper "won" the non-binary division and a convicted doper is Chairman of the Board of NYRR, so I'm not holding my breath for them to enforce their own rules.
Besides, it's not like a Metro bus almost killed a bunch of runners at a race the day before <checks notes> Oh.

Can you explain the non-binary part? Did a biological female who takes steroids "win"? I feel 99% of the time the biological males win so maybe this is "progress"
