The idea of restoring a caliphate is the fever dream of the current crop of Islamists, who (God forbid) might one day agree to temporarily set aside intra-Islamic differences and band together to try to expand Islamism into non-Islamic countries. This isn't really possible in the nuclear age and would backfire if tried, but is a real danger in 2023.

You see, Islam itself views the world as being divided into the 'house of Islam' and the 'house of war,' with the house of war being non-Muslim countries. Part of the religion considers it to be a duty to be at war with the non-Muslim world unless there is a truce for a while. Islam is interwoven with temporal politics and expansion using violence. It's one reason why believing Christians and Jews viewed it as ridiculous and heretical.

So, I'm not taking a position on the creation of Israel, and I certainly don't condone every single thing that zionists have done.
