Jakob has yet to run an extremely fast mile, and even less so in Eugene.
So it will definitely be interesting, I don't have huge expectations though, it's the end of the season he's already peaked a few times since June so...
I think think he can PB, but not by much I expect 3:46 low. And for the 3000m 7:25-27
The guy likes to race, which is more than one can say about some athletes. That being said, while I think he can win the double, he's not going to break a WR in either if he tries both. I'd rather he focus on one and go for the record.
jesus christ, what is it with the peaking nonsense? He just ran a 3:48 mile and closed in a 55,56? Like a few days ago, and looked very comfortable doing it, and then confirmed he was comfortable doing it. he is by no means experiencing that end of season fatigue that lots of other runners feel.
Jakob wants to be the greatest runner of all time. I have no idea what he's really planning for Eugene, but I think he could break the WR in one of those events. He's full of surprises -- maybe he scratches from 1500 and goes for 3k WR instead. But given his fitness and attitude, seems to me he will for both wins to reinforce to all the fact he is the world's best middle distance runner.
I've watched Jakob for 6 years now and every Team I. This is an interview from before the Olympics and it gives keen insight into a driven personality:
A very inspiring episode and interview with Jakob Ingebrigtsen, one of the best runners in the world. What does it take to become the best? Is there a secret...
You’re all idiots if you don’t think that 3k is going down. Literally everyone is in the agreement that he can break 7:20 whenever he wants and if you don’t think that’s possible you’re delusional. There’s no reason why. A Mike the day before is not going to stop this. It might slow him a couple seconds in the 3k, but he doesn’t need to be at 100% to break 7:20, and he won’t be, just like he didn’t need to be at 100% to win worlds, cuz he’s that much better. Is this not clear yet? Not sure about mile. Hope he proves me wrong. But that 3k record is his.
Somebody never raced at a high level.
No one has come within a couple seconds of the record EVER and he has a few seconds to spare after running a world class mile the day before? Cmon. His fitness and recent results suggest that he most likely can get the record, but things will have to be near perfect. If he was running just the 3000m and it was set up as a world record attempt, I'd think he gets the record, but not as the second part of a double.
It is going to be 90 degrees at race time both days.
Yep! Great time to PR by 5 seconds during the second half of a weekend double. The meet record (maybe the venue record too, but not 100%) is 7:35 by Kipchoge in 2005. This record isn't going down if he doubles.

To be clear, the meet record is toast I'm sure, but not the world record. This seems obvious to me.
Ok. Cook me alive here if im wrong. IF the pace is set for world record, he's getting it. This happens literally every time folks. Ill say it again. if the pace is set, he's getting it. Also, why is everyone acting like hes arriving in the US the morning of the race?
He will run these races on pure hate towards the illness that cost him the gold at worlds.. After this weekend I am pretty sure that even the worst Jacob haters will agree that he was sick in the finals. Guessing 3k WR and Mile PB.

Yes but there's peaking and peaking.
I personally just doubt he'll be in 3:27 and 7:54 shape like in June. He might still be fit enough to run a mile PB.
