I feel like he picked the wrong league to go after. Nobody calls the NBA champs "World Champs", thats way more of an MLB & NFL thing

Can't believe even here on letsrun people act like Lyles made some kind of quality statement about the level of NBA teams. It's not about how good they are. A national league cannot provide world champions, simple as that.

And the USA has by far the most international championships although yes they have been beat on occasion
The NBA is the best league in the world but there’s only so many teams and so many spots. I would imagine if there was an actual world league, more talent would emerge from each country instead of just the very best person from a country coming to the United States.

It was a dumb statement for sure, but it wasn't technically wrong and none of the NBA players had a good rebuttal that disputed what he said. NBA champs are not world champs. But we all know the best NBA team is likely the best team in the world.

I'm just amazed this is the most press he's probably ever gotten. This got more buzz than him winning 3 World titles.
