Karsten possibly has more talent than Jakob for 800m.
When 17, Warholm ran 2:45 in an Octathlon 1000m. That's at best a 2:35 for a 1000 alone. Which, if we convert very generously to the 800, is 1:57. Jakob ran 1:49 when 17.

This means nothing to me. I don’t care whether Karsten could train to defeat Jakob at 800m. I say it is possible but so what? Jakob probably would not even win the NCAA 800m.
They were mostly over forty years ago. 3 of them. And how many 400hurdlers and 800 runners have competed since then and today? Thousands. The few exceptions prove the rule, that there is no consistent overlap between the two events.
Until Warholm runs 1.46 this is all hot air.
Most world class 400m hurdlers are not trying to be world class 800m runners. That is a true statement. If they were, you would have a good point. Since they are not, you don’t.
But if the two events are so closely related then most hurdlers would double over the 800, as many other runners do from the sprints to the distance events. The reason the hurdlers aren't trying to be top 800 runners is that most of them couldn't succeed at both distances; being a good hurdler doesn't automatically make them a good 2-lap runner. Perhaps you might care to name a hurdler who has won both events in the Olympics?

You and Armstronglivs, if you were smarter, would know that even if 33% of world class 400m hurdlers could be world class at 800m, if they tried, we likely would never know because they don’t try. So what?

When you say “closely related,” what does that even mean? Intelligence matters here. IF I wanted to find a world class 800m talent, in another event, I would probably choose between the 400m, the 400m hurdles and the 1500m. I suppose you would choose what, the 10000m? How stupid are you folks?
Harald Schmid ran 44.92 for 400m and 1:44.83 for 800m. He was one of the best 400 hurdlers for a decade in the 70s and 80s. He doesn't have a 100m time, but his 200m is 20.68.

That's a great argument; they are likely to be good at it but we will never know because they don't try. (Just like most of us don't try what we know we won't succeed at). The reason why they don't try is beyond your ability to grasp.

Obvioulsy you are going to pick from the distance just under and just above. But you will find a lot more 1500 guys able of running 1:46 than 400 400h guys. That is what closely related means. 800 and 1500 are middle distance races. 400 is a sprint race. The 400/800 runner are rare. The 800/1500 runner are common.
And wtf has Jakob running NCAA 800 to do with this thread?

Closely-related means that the qualities necessary for one event are easily found in another. If that were so with the 400h and the 800m we would see runners regularly participating in both events - like 800/1500 runners, or the declining breed of 400/800 runners. But we don't.
I don't know, guys. Look at Jarmila Kratochvilova. (S)he was primarily a sprinter but look what her/his 800. I think Karsten could muscle his way through a fast 800. They are (were) pure power runners.

You and Impala have mediocre minds. You both lack the intelligence to seem that the 400m hurdles is one of the events most likely to transfer to 800m.

Schmid stands out as an exception. Very few athletes could double as he did. But more to the point in this thread, he actually competed in both events. When has Warholm?

To “see” not seem. There comes a point where the intelligent need to bow out of a thread to preserve their sanity. Some of you will never know what this is like, recognizing that the idiots are the norm.

No, it isn't. This is shown by the fact that many more 800 runners have doubled in the 1500 than the 400h. Also, more 400-flat runners have doubled in the 800 than 400-hurdlers have.

It appears that you are conforming to that "norm".
