Budd also ran during legal blood doping era where athletes like Viren as well as the entire US indoor cycling team at the 1984 Olympics engaged in this practice and it was perfectly legal. Seems relevant.
Zola Budd was a world record holding phenom who had been running high mileage on dirt trails for a long time. And barefoot can be FAST on a rubber track. Nothing lighter than no shoes. To compare a young runner to Budd is a great compliment. Is KT overrated? As OP would point out, KT never had the makings of a varsity athlete. Which makes the lovely Coach Henes a Freaking Genius!! At this point for the sake of decency I must stop dictating for Uncle Junior.
She has won some NCAA championships but has won them in mediocre times. Let's temper our enthusiasm in proclaiming her the greatest female distance runner of all time. She is a solid collegiate runner but slow down on putting her in the Runner's Hall of Fame just yet. She has a chance to be a solid professional runner, but who knows?!? She has maybe already plateued. She could maybe do some pacing duties, a la Eric Jenkins, for the professional female runners. She is NOt ready for any Diamond League races. no where close. She is a solid collegiate runner but is a minute behind the fastest female runners for the 5000.
So by asking these questions, I assume you are just a standard Tuohy troll trying to get attention. But I will bite anyway...
Mediocre times - by world championships standards yes, but she is in the NCAA - so her times are being judged accordingly...where she has the best NCAA times of all time at several distances. Why are you trying to compare to the worlds best? At the NCAA level, currently the best ever at several events.
Hall of Fame - funny, the only people to make silly statements like this are the Trolls. The people who are Tuohy fans aren't making these ridiculous comments (besides a few goofy statements here or there). She is simply a great NCAA runner at this point. WOuld love to see her continue on...but who knows.
Plateaued ? - kind of a silly comment. You could say that any runner MAY have plateaued right now. Although given that Tuohy has just surpassed virtually every PB recently, she probably isn't your best candidate.
Diamond League - again, feel free to point out the times that people were saying she was ready for the Diamond League/Olympics/etc etc.
Anyway - she is likely the most popular runner on this board, sorry that bothers you so much.

If blood doping was as prevalent as you seem to be implying it seems like there would have been dozens of teenagers running really fast. Or, was Zola somehow the only one doing this?
*Katelyn runs a race, does an interview, posts a picture, breathes*
100000 threads on this website about her.
Yes, she's a phenomenal runner, probably the greatest high school cross-country/distance runner in the US ever. She's shaping up to have a dominant collegiate career, which is rare for someone of that talent level. It bodes well for her pro career.
No, she's not the greatest track and field athlete who is of her age. There are plenty already killing it internationally. Athing Mu, Keely Hodgkinson are here age almost to the day.

This is clearly a troll post. It’s always amusing how many people miss that
I still remember watching her race with Decker in '84 and absolutely HATING her because the media made her into the villain. It wasn't until years later when I watched the race on YouTube that I realized it was not Budd's fault at all. However, there was contact with "America's Darling", she went down and they had to place blame somewhere. Poor Budd took the fall.
Before there was Katelyn Tuohy there was Mary Decker. I remember reading old running magazines and there'd be worshipful mentions of Mary Decker's abilities but also her as "America's Darling" and even some salacious comments which shouldn't have been surprising as the wistful writers were male. It didn't make sense to me and seemed out of character for the running community but the proof was there in print. This overhyping of KT has nothing directly to do with KT herself. It's undoubtedly just as fickle and I hope she doesn't take any of it to heart or personally.

Before KT we had many obsessed with Jordan Hasay. That has kind of fallen by the wayside. In 2 years perhaps KT will be just a memory. She would have to run 14:25 to be considered elite. I don't see that happening. Maybe 14:45 at the max.
She is underrated. She is the fastest college runner in history.
In what fantasy world is 4:06 and 15:03 (Katelyn) faster than 3:59 and 15:01 (Jenny)?
Right? And those events weren't even Jenny's specialty, Jenny was focusing on the Steeple at the time in college and was frickin so badass and fast in it she had American records, she won a USATF title as a sophomore, and competed on the world stage, and got to world's finals...also all in normal non-super shoes.
Oh yeah and I am comfortable with period-talk because I missed 2 periods the summer before my freshman season and literally went from normal bones to osteopenia in 6 months. Had to redshirt that year and never came back.
