Still early days, and it's a 150m street meet, but that was an impressive run from Noah Lyles. Looked much stronger than Knighton/Omanyala over the final 50 and put a ton of ground on them.
More a worry for Knighton because Omanyala doesn't run the 200.

Knighton needs to get physically stronger. He needs to hit some weights in order to improve.
Idk about that. He may have peaked in speed.
He has been a 19.7/19.8 guy at his best, who might have gone a wind-legal 19.5 one time, but for me that result is still very much in doubt.
You may be right, maybe he needs to challenge himself with a new growth phase, and mature into his body. Heck, if that worked out, at some point he might be able to do some damage in the 100.
I loved it. I loved the interviews because they were fun. The coverage was for the most part excellent and the commentators were knowledgeable, didn't ramble and their joking with each other was great.
The athletes were accessible to the crowd. The crowd was great, the atmosphere was fun.
I was talking to someone who was there- she ran the mile (she's about 45 years old) in 5:38.
She said it was a lot of fun.
I'd love to see more of this to really bring the sport and the athletes to the public.

Look at Bolt in 2007 Worlds in Osaka. His coach said that he needed to get physically stronger after Gay put him away in the 200M. His coach put him on weights and the rest is history. Look at his muscularity from 2008 onwards.
Knighton will not get faster if he doesn't get stronger. Right now he's a twig compared to other sprinters.

Weir was a stick, and Lemaitre had a small upper body (but decent legs)—and both medaled on the biggest stages, in 19.8 after rounds, with Bolt and Blake on the track. And look at ADG.
So far, Knighton has been about the same as CL and WW, although I would say a little bit faster. IDK if more power is beneficial in the 200, but we’ll see. Worked for Blake!
It was a good run by Omanyala - he’s not a 200 guy so from 100-150 he lost all that ground. I’m a bit concerned about Knighton…feels like he’s stagnated. Pretty much same guy he was in 2021 it seems if you take out the one outlier result (place gained at Worlds was ADG decline, not much improvement). You’d think he’d be getting better at this juncture at the very least in the 100 with added strength/technique. His training/prep seemed pretty limited as a high schooler, I’d think there’d be gains from a pro schedule. Early this season, so maybe it’ll come.

Power is required for the short sprints. It is a balance of course, but if you don't have the strength you will not be as fast as you should be. Weir had one season and disappeared. LeMaitre is like Boling - an also ran. Knighton is far superior to both with potential that neither of the two had/has.

Yeah…No to everything but the first sentence, obviously.
You know, I would much rather see Knighton succeed, than Lyles. Bednarek I like.
But you have to hand it to Lyles. Knighton better watch out, because depending on who lines up, he might not even make the team.

How powerful do you think Oblique Seville is? Christian Coleman? (6.34, 9.76, 19.85) Andre DeGrasse? Got news for you - Lamont Jacobs is pretty weak in the weight room, he gets his bulk doing higher reps at pretty low weights. Seville in particular stands out - he is built more like a middle to long distance runner than a sprinter, look closely at him. There is much, much more to sprinting than "power".

If Knighton does nothing more than continue on his current program (which probably includes some kind of weight training and plyos) he will improve over time. He may not make a team this year or even next year but will be a force to be reckoned with for many years if he chooses to remain in the sport. From the looks of him he is a late bloomer.

Should have said "he is built more like a middle to long distance runner than the traditional stereotype of what a sprinter should look like".

While you are at it, go take a look at Marybeth Sant-Price, all 5'2" of her with skinny, flaccid legs and arms. She runs the 100m in 10.95 and is a World Indoor 60m Bronze medalist. Time to rethink your assumptions and learn something about the sport.

A little myoptic, perhaps? Visit an optometrist to improve your far-sightedness. Now tell us all about "expected progressions" like so many other fools who post on this site.
