Why in the world would a father not want his kid to have his last name

I know a guy who took his wife's last name. His dad was an abusive a55. Really there is no logical reason one way or the other, only tradition based in the same tradition that said only men could own property. I could see a kid not wanting his dad's last name if his dad was an a55.

Maybe they want to distance themselves from their family, maybe they just don't like their last name (if my last name were Glasscock I'm not giving my kid that last name), or maybe they just liked the sound of their wife's last name better. Many reasons why some kids take mom's last name. You sound like you don't know how to use Yandex or Google so I'll give you some examples. Many runners in Japan are from another country like Ethiopia. When they get married to a Japanese woman, the kids are given the mom's last name. This is to prevent discrimination against the kid at school and in society. Another example is #1 tennis star Naomi Osaka. Osaka is her mom's last name. Her dad is black.

Other folks have others reasons... Unless you are God, you don't know the reasons...

Try to be less judgemental. Your wokism is really hurting the country. What does it matter to you what parents name their kids? Why do you feel threatened? Why do you feel the need to impose your woke values on them? Their kids, their choice.

My kids have their mom's last name. Two reasons: 1) I don't give a sh*t about my last name and 2) her last name is objectively way cooler and more recognizable.

My wife kept her surname. Fine with me. It wasn't even a discussion. Her names has a nice sound to it, and she likes it. Plus, she was raised by a single mom, and it's her lifelong name, too. It would have felt weird if my wife took my name. I wanted her to keep her name.

Anyway, as for the names of our three kids. We just kinda decided (we are a no-drama couple) that boys would get my name (with her surname as the middle name) and girls would get her name (with my name as middle). Sure, why not. I really didn't care.

We have three sons. With the third son, I said eff it, we're done having kids and he's getting my wife's last name.

Bingo. Met a woman many years ago who used her mom's maiden name because her dad was one of the richest men in the US (and had an unusual name that would be instantly recognized).
