As a coach I was never impressed hearing about how what’s its name has so much “potential.” Maybe tick it off a list of boxes I used to scout talent, but it —“potential”— was pretty far down on the list.” Reliable, hard working, fit, enthusiastic, engaged” we’re higher priorities. “Ability” fell pretty far below “performs!”
For many, and myself, the opportunity to meet your lifetime max running potential is long past. Do I have regrets? Sure. But I choose not to dwell on those regrets and instead think of what I can be doing today that I might later regret if I don't.
You are an imbecile. My 5k, 8k, 10 mile and all of my track times are way better than yours.
You ran a mediocre marathon which in comparison to my times is a much lesser performance. And you know it.
Don't you feel pathetic trying to think you ever were in my league?
Gregory, please, for your own sake, find another pastime than hanging out on these boards. It is not good for your mental health, and you will never redeem your reputation here. Just cut bait, and move on to people who will appreciate you more. You have a lot to give, and I am rooting for you.
Consider that almost no one, even the elites, truly reach their full potential. Run to challenge yourself. Run to have fun. These are great blessings in life.
Almost every elite athlete reaches his potential. They train hard for years and years. What else do you think they should be doing to run even faster?
I disagree. Most athletes along the way get injured, suffer from some setback that delays their training, don’t eat right, have poor coaching, go through periods of poor effort at practice, etc. that’s what I mean when I say that most people never reach their full potential. I’ve been a coach (swimming) long enough to know that few athletes truly maximize all their opportunities.
From what I know about proper smart training today I also realise I could have run much faster at all distances even if I ran a 14:20/ 29:51 5k/ 10 k. Now I get satisfaction with this knowledge to help runners all over the world to reach their running dreams instead. To someone else without this opportunity I suggest to find another interest that can give you satisfaction and take up your time and dreams....🧙♂️
