I've gotta say, when I heard this thing was going to be in Bermuda, I did wonder if the wind would be a factor since it's in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Didn't imagine it would be quite like this though!
As for flipping directions, I'm sure it's possible, but you also have tickets sold and TV cameras set up for that specific finish line. I'm not sure it's as easy as simply lining up the blocks at the other end of the track.
Nice race for Etiang, glad to see him go for it and I think he had a second gear ready, don't think the win was really in doubt.
Seems like the timing equipment is all messed up, 9 of the 24 intermediate splits were not recorded. Not looking too great for this meet organizationally so far
I'm trying to figure out if the wind is coming from an unusual direction. I've never understood why you would build a track that doesn't finish with the wind most of the time in the spring/summer.
I looked up Bermuda weather and it looks like a) It's always windy but b) the wind isn't consistently from the same direction this time of year.
It’s pretty packed on the homestretch fans-wise and the 100m start is way too close to the end of the track so you’d have to run races on the backstretch away from most of the fans. Not sure if that’d work for TV and it screws the paying spectators. I like Grant but sometimes there’s no easy solution. That’s not even getting into whether the track has appropriate marks, the finish line cameras etc.
if Elaine Thompson had her own windless vacuum tunnel lane, she could have beat Yohan Blake (10.64) and Erriyon Knighton (10.61) today and won the first heat

Could always have some padding set up to bump into at the end like they do indoors for 60m. Measure the wind before the meet starts, and anyone who buys finish-line tickets direct them to be seated at the appropriate side. Anyways sounds like it's always very windy at this location, so they really could have anticipated all this ahead of time
I guess once you have built a stadium and then realize there's an echo from the gun that makes it sound like a false start there's not much you can do.
Is that what is going on? I was wondering if Lewis Johnson’s mic was still on and picking it up on a slight delay.
Never heard that before and stadium doesn’t look that crazy.
Ajee is back this year, good to see her still in great form.
But Chrisann Gordon-Powell ran really well and closed hard for herself to get 2nd. world athletics says she has a 7.56 60m PB. I know the 400-800 type is more common amongst women but that's some insane range

That was just my guess. But that's what it sounds like. The commentators are all hearing it at the stadium.
Anyone else hear Otto and Sanya say the pacer "did her job" in the women's 800, because she hit the split of 58? 26-low first 200 and then jogging a 32 is really a tremendously paced lap. Why do we have the worst announcers in all of sports?

to be fair that was probably as much the wind's fault as the pacer -- would be a big tailwind for the first 200m and headwind for the home straight
off topic but Rojo rants (new and improved with the soundboard effect) combined with Jon's reactions made my morning commute very enjoyable the other day, keep up the good work boyz
