Those Wisconsin guys must not like Adidas spikes

Those are Adidas Adistar MD's he has on in the picture, good comment thought. (insert farting noise)

I am sure there are varying levels of shoe contracts. I have seen several athletes who run for a sponsored school wear another company spike and cover the identifying marks (Molly Huddle early this season, now wearing Adidas spikes). But if you look back, the Wisco team has been sponsored by Adidas for several years and there guys have rarely worn their spikes. Look at pictures from last year at Nationals. If it was that big of a deal i am sure Adidas would have done something by now.

You should know your spikes a bit better buddy. Those are Cosmos, not Adistars.

As long as the WI football team keeps winning and the basketball team is near the top of the Big Ten, adidas probably doesn't know that WI has a cross country team.

Good points "easy,easy". I personally do not think the Wisco cross country team should have to wear Adidas spikes if they don't want. It is frustrating to see track and cross country programs have to wear the shoes that the B-Ball and football coaches want and that those coaches get huge amounts of money for. I just think that it is risky to so publicly defy what the schools contract is with Adidas, especially for such a high profile team like Wisconsin and I find it hard to believe that the adminstration won't care. However, as you said, they have been sponsored by Adidas for several years and nothing has happened so far, so maybe it is not that big of a deal.

Adidas wouldn't make them wear thier shoes. There was a case earlier this year where a Arkansas State BBall player wouldn't wear Adidas shoes because he said they lead to a previous injury. The school was going to make him sit out the season if he wouldn't wear adidas, but adidas stepped in and said that the should be allowed to play. Making a kid wear thier shoes agaist his own will creates way too much bad PR. As far as Wisconsin, though, I wouldn't be surprised if the Adidas rep puts pressure on the AD to fix the situation, as they are one of only 6 schools with a full Adidas deal. When I ran at an Adidas school, the reps used to take suggestions from the team, but our coach was pretty strict about not wearing other company's gear.

My school was sponsored by Keds. Other teams used to laugh at us at the starting line in their fancy ProWings and LA Gear!

Who cares if Adidas cares?.. Nike or Puma or someone will gladly step in if Adidas wants to raise that much of a fuss and drop Wisconsin because of the cross country team.

Do you think if he was lighter, he could run faster.

He has lots of strength but if he lost some of it his VO2 Max might raise.

Actually, the entire sports program benefits from this money. Not that it is an enormous amount, but it helps pay for tracks, weight rooms, facilities, trainers, travel, etc. for all programs, including track and xc.

I doubt the athletic admin would ever care what the XC team wears on their feet, but if one of these guys were to be pictured on the cover of TNF News with Nike’s on (Wisconsin), I bet they would hear form adidas.

Funny you should say that. I was featured in an advertisement for our school's athletic program, and they pulled me straight from practice to do it. We were a nike school, and I was wearing 990's that day. They had a freshly pressed (no joke) uniform for me to wear, and the photographer said I would be fine in the 990's, that he would make sure the NB symbol was not visable.

To make a long story short, when the ad hit the public, my coach got b****ed out by the AD, and I felt like an ass. We got top of the line Nike shoes, but I never liked all of that stuff, I always just liked 990's. I would take my $120 nike shoes to Sports Authority and exchange them for 990's, which I am sure is highly illegal. We never heard from Nike about the ad, I am sure they were worried about other - more important - things, but the AD was pissed.

Addidas already tried to punish the team by not giving them their gear bags when they go to track nationals but when push came to shove Addidas folded and gave Wisconsin what they wanted. It is not just a cross country problem, it is a whole track team problem. Wisconsin won't have Nike because they use sweat shops and Addidas does not apparently, at least that is what the damn hippies in Madison think.

Yes, Adidas is just as bad.

Neither use sweatshops, they use manufacturing labor abroad that will perform a 14 hour day for an equivalent of 10 cents.

What the hippies don't understand is that if Adidas and Nike paid these workers US minimum wage, they would be billionaires in their respective countries.

I worked on a commission designed to research these labor practices, and all of the companies have their parts manufactured abroad in the same manner. Activists just pick one company and roll with it.

To end this meaningless discussion about what Haile wore, yes those are adistars MD and no, those are not Cosmos. I had the previous model of adistars (white with red monotongue and black stripes) and also this blue model. They were identical, except for the monotongue. I know for sure that Haile got his pair custom made. There are far less accomplished runners who got theirs (including me, for some extra cash), then why not the Emperor?

BTW, those spikes were good, better than concurrent nike models, except for the jasaris.

they are Adistar MD's Monkey Boy! These are Adistar spike plates and upper with increased visibility on the three stripes and tongue monogram (insert I am so right, I work for Adidas jerk) Yes they were custom made.

This is no big deal.

This is no different than our College Golf team getting Strata golf balls for practice and Competition; then, in turn going on to play Titleist or Callaway

Haile is and always wore a tech star md plate. They aren't adistar md or ld or the cosmos. The cosmos did look very similiar but they had a solid black/blue plate. Haile's have a white area where the arch area is on the outsole. Which is a tech star.

Stop saying he wore the cosmos. That's just a big lie/rumor go back to dyestat.
