Just because this is letsrun and you can anticipate 1/4 of the next posts being about the “horrible” 1500 times I’ll make a quick point. The 1500 times are poor because the event does not reward good 1500 times. (The points table is standard for all meets, and doesn’t change) So a 3:45 1500 gets 1067 points. The equivalent points in other events are:
100m - 10.11 (1069)
Long Jump - 8.02m (26’3.75”) (1069)
Shot Put - 19.50m (63’11.75”) (1069) *yet you never hear the throwers talk about the “garbage” shot put in the decathlon…..
High Jump - 2.28m (7’5.75”) (1068)
400m - 44.82 (1068)
110H - 13.29 (1068)
Discus - 59.40 (194’10.5”) (1068)
Vault - 5.50 (18’) (1068)
Javelin - 81.50 (267’4.75”)
So it doesn’t “pay” to be a thrower or a mid distance guy. So there is zero incentive to invest training. Speed and jumps in training has the biggest payoff.
