I heard this for the first time today. Rae asked him straight up why the 100 now. He noted that he apparently came to South Plain JC wanting to run the 100 and 200, but the team was loaded with Caribbean and US studs. So they said no slot for him and he should run the 400. He took to it obviously and then at A&M they recruited him for it. Got typecast as a 400 guy. Finally with some issue with turns and his buildup he revisited it and clearly as you saw he’s a complete sprinter. Bolt also moved down at 21 not 16 and he had to beg his coach.
