For whatever reason, watching Thies go out reminded me of the Louie Quintana at Villanova dominating the field in the 1500 for most of the race and then got swallowed up. I can't remember the exact year but I can picture the race. It had to be early to mid 90s because some guys from my HS team and I were watching that race rooting for him to hang on.

Only in the US could the national road mile championship titles be won on a course that includes 600m of track. After all this is a nation that thinks running loops around a golf course qualifies as “cross country”. To be fair to Eric Avila and Rachel Schneider they should be crowned USATF Road and Track Mile Champs.

So "reporter" Gault watched it on TV and "reported" the race as if he were in person. How come you guys never disclose that fact. Iowa is pretty much open at this point. The Des Moines register had better coverate
