Unofficial We Don’t Want the Tokyo Olympics to Happen

This cheerleading movement which presupposes that the Tokyo Olympics should take place in 2021 is magical thinking at its finest. How can one espouse this without coming across as wanting to watch one’s Gladiators despite the price in lost lives? How many lost lives would be OK just so you can watch your sporting event? You may assert that this is a false choice but is it? How are you able to know that the vaccines and the alleged magical elixir of summer weather will prove efficacious in transmission mitigation, especially with mutant strains emerging? Note: I do not want any suppression of the exchange of ideas, but this thread is for those who do NOT want to see the 2021 Tokyo Olympics take place. Please be advised there is another thread for those who disagree.

Yes, and we did the same thing. Remember when Colorado was awarded the 1976 Winter Olympics and then the people of the state reneged? And it wasn't because of something as insidious as a virus, but rather CO voters decided they didn't want a tax increase. That, and it would bring more development and too many people into the state.

I have no problem with debate. I was jokingly mimicking the other thread which did not want debate. Sorry if they sold over your empty head. There is a huge opportunity cost of not staging the Olympics. However you do not want to debate. You want to lie. That is what you do. Canceling the Olympics is not tantamount to government decreed house arrest. Are you under house arrest? You apparently would gladly embrace a couple thousand extra deaths, for example, as long as you can watch your badminton while curled up on the couch in your onesie.

You're advocating that everyone should live their life trying to be aware of the butterfly effect that may or may not cause someone else to die. I'll say it again, the purpose of your life is not for everyone to live as long and healthy as possible.

And if you truly believed that your objective in life is to prevent anyone around you from possibly getting sick and dying then the most virtuous thing you can do is live alone and never ever leave your house under any circumstance. If you are not doing that then you are a hypocrite.

You are not very bright. You are insinuating that I am taking a position that the only value I advocate is living as healthy and long as possible. Just because I do not drink and drive does not mean that I only value length of life over quality of life. Again you make assumptions which manifests a low degree of integrity and/or intelligence.

They want to get the Olympics cancelled, because they despise the politicians and the marketing agency (Dentsu).

What about just a track and field championship? I can go without gymnastics and 3v3 basketball for another 4 years but all I want is track. At that point it wouldn’t have to be in Tokyo anymore.

Does that make it more palatable to those who say no olympics?

The people in Japan would rather have gymnastics than track & field.

They are expecting a lot of medals in gymnastics, but race walking is about their only chance at a medal in track & field. (Oh, and men's 4x1 if you believe that.)
