Did it ever occur to anyone Wetmore might not be motivated by salary. He just does it because he loves to do it. I know several D1 coaches who are living this exact scenario. One coach in particular approached his AD and asked how come other coaches (non-revenue coaches) were getting raises and he wasn't, even though he had been there 10-15 years longer than these other coaches. The AD responded with this answer "you never asked for a raise". To which the coach responded "of course not I don't do it for the money". The AD responded "well thats why we never increased your salary. Maybe your do for a raise". The coach responded with "shove that raise up your a--". Now mind you this coach had already won numerous national titles and could get a coaching gig anywhere he wanted. He really enjoyed where he lived and decided to stay even if it meant he made less money. When I say less money I'm talking about 100-150k less money/year. The AD must of felt guilty because within a month he approached the coach and told him he had done a bit of "research" and realized that a D1 coach with his resume was being underpaid. He then told the coach at the start of the new fiscal year he would double his salary. He did, but the coach was still grossly underpaid. Long story short coaches do this sometimes thankless job because they love it not because of the money. There are coaches out there that don't give a f--- if their salary is commensurate with their accomplishments.
