Of course he would downplay his own age. First, if he says he is 19, but listed as 18, it already means he doesn't know himself about his own age.
Fact is, there was no birth certificate/record and everything is just guessing. Do you know how most babies in Africa are born? I'm sure Kipchoge doesn't remember anything from when he was 1 year old, or 3 years old, and in what year he was in.
https://d2779tscntxxsw.cloudfront.net/59120252d0878.jpeg?width=1200&quality=80That's how he supposedly looked at 18 years old. You don't need to have a PhD in African studies to realize that this is not how a typical 18-year old African man looks like. Them not knowing their real age is still a problem these days, did you forget how many Africans smoked Ingebrigtsen in the U20 XC world's? He only got 12th. Almost every single Kenyan/Ethiopian runner in that race was ahead of him. One reason could be, they weren't "U20" at all.
You didn't answer any of my questions. Also, do you honestly believe most Africans don't know their ages? Like seriously?
Kenyans and Ethiopians are objectively the best long-distance runners as a whole (Coevett's ranting about this is generally nonsense).
This does not change the fact that they:
1) Do not know their ages because many of them do not have registered birth certificates or grew up in poverty (this is incredibly well-known, given that an ongoing issue is the need for midwives due to a lack of hospital accessibility in many regions of Kenya and Ethiopia).
2) Do actively age cheat.
With regards to not knowing their ages, this information isn't something fabricated by Europe or whatnot. We only think this because actual African athletes, like Hirpasa Lemi, openly state that it is the case:
https://www.podiumrunner.com/events/how-old-is-haile-gebrselassie/Honestly, do you want to argue that Hirpasa Lemi, an actual high-level Ethiopian athlete who happens to be giving insight into the situation, is in on some conspiracy?
If so, then what about cases like this?
https://allafrica.com/stories/201808130074.htmlThis isn't Western Media. This is AFRICAN media (specifically Kenyan) describing how Kenyans are not aware of their age and engage in age-cheating. What are you even arguing against, when ACTUAL Kenyans living in Kenya are describing the situation?
