Reebok Floatride Energy Symmetros

Hi,

The more I read of this shoe, the more I like to try it. I generally wear size 11 and sometimes 10.5. Which would be the right size for me?. I also tried the old Reebok HR 3 the other day, I felt they a little lack cushion at very front, you feel the thick rubber from the sole when I toe off - so a little harsh. Is the Reebok F E Symm. better in this regard, plenty of cushion at front and less ground feel. It also looks like its got a bit of a rocker at the front (like Hoka, Novablast), is that right. If so that would be great make it quicker with heel to toe transitions. Thanks.

This shoe runs narrow so you'll want your usual size 11. I just did my 1st run in these in my usual size 10 and lengthwise I have a full thumbs width space but widthwise it was snug and I got a small blister between my big toe and 2nd toe from them rubbing together. I'll have to try extra thin socks next run. For reference with the Forever Energy in a half size down 9.5 the width feels fine for me.

As far as how the shoe ride felt, you can definitely feel the extra cushion and the shoe still felt fast, although when doing strides at mile pace (5:20 for me) they dont feel quite as springy as the Forever Energy but ok as long as you stay off the heel. I went back on my heel on 1 of my strides and it got unstable. Also, like the Forever Energy this shoe feels like it needs a break-in period before it loosens/softens up. These shoes feel soft when you initially walk in them but then when you start running they feel firmer than expected but after a break-in period the Forever Energy feels great so hopefully will be the same for the Symmetros.

Agree with what jimmeda says. Narrow, true to size, softer. I think these shoes encourage more of a midfoot strike with the design of the heel, so if you hit far back in the heel, I can see how it would be unstable. But again with the design of the shoe, it kinda of makes you strike closer to the midfoot automatically.

Depends if your foot is wide or not. I think go true to size. The forefoot is roomy but not sloppy for me in TTS. If you like a snug fit, half a size down does seem to be mostly okay though. The fit does not seem too roomy as I remember in the HR3. The lockdown is much better here.

As for the cushion, there is plenty here. The forefoot is not thin. I don't think the HR3 was either, but there is just as much here and I think a bit more. I only tried the HR3 for a bit like a year ago though. That shoe was definitely not harsh though and neither is this. Both are well cushioned. The HR3 definitely was not under-cushioned with too much ground feel. Definitely not the case here either. I can tell you that the transition is much better than the HR3 here. It comes off the heel and forefoot better. It does have a bit more of a roll/bevel off the heel than other Reebok shoes.

This shoe is way better than the Novablast though lol. I don't get the love for that shoe. The heel design clearly went for aesthetics at the expense of performance in that one.

I find that the midfoot is narrow with good lockdown, but can be loosened up too. The forefoot is not too narrow in my opinion and the upper stretches more up front than the FFE. Having tried my normal 9.5 and a 9, I could probably go with either. I do like a snug fit, but I would recommend generally for people to go TTS for some forefoot room and still good lockdown.

On the heel design, it does work well for a smooth transition and to have a bit more of a midfoot or not super far back landing.

I don't have any issue with break-in needed or firmness at first, but I didn't find the FFE really needed that either. I find that React is much firmer/stiffer at first though...

Interestingly, recent emails from Reebok have suggested that this Floatride Energy is nitrogen infused, so it could be a nitrogen infused PU midolse aka like a combination of Hyperburst/DNA Flash and Pwrrun+/Boost. I hadn't seen the nitrogen infused part of it mentioned before, but that is certainly interesting if it takes advantage of both types of midsoles...

Okay, I think I will personally backpedal and say I prefer the half size down. I like a snug fit and the length feels a bit longer than I like. The lockdown feels good still in TTS, but I don't like feeling like my toes have space and the forefoot feels pretty roomy to me.

I think overall many people will be happy with TTS and many people seem to like more space than me. If you like a snug fit, half size down still has enough length and probably enough width up front for people without wide feet. The midfoot might be snug for some people though in a half size down. I tend to like it snug in the midfoot and heel where my foot is more narrow. I think the same size as the FFE will work for many though and the forefoot mesh is more pliable here.

I bought a pair at this clearance price and did my first run in them today which was a 20 min threshold at 6:25 pace. While the lightness of the shoes were appreciated and the shoes have some response, they don't feel much faster than my Forever Energy which are heavier but springier and more cushioned. Now I did run at noon in like 90 degree weather so maybe my opinion will improve on subsequent runs or in better conditions but these seem like they aren't as special as I was hoping for from the hype they receive. I can definitely see them as a good half to full marathon racer and for the occasional long workout but not really something I'm compelled to stock up on. As far as fit they were nice and snug in my usual size 10 so half size up from the Forever Energy.

Where did you find the Symmetros on clearance? Both the Symmetros and the FFE2 seem to be excluded from the "sitewide" sales on reebok's website.

Sorry for the confusion, I was responding to jva's post regarding the Run Fast for $50 from Sierra. For the Symmetros the only discount I know of is the 50% off for heroes (which includes those in the teaching field which luckily my family member is).

Just a quick question , someone said the reebok is quite a firm shoe firmer than the skechers gorun ride 8. Is that true? as I found the skechers firm and stiff verging on hard especially in colder weather - not very comfortable for long runs. I hope the Reebok is softer and more comfortable/forgiving shoe that isn't stiff especially in the forefoot

Not even close. The Symmetros is way softer and bouncier. I did not like the GRR8 either.

Did you find the forefoot in this a bit thin for long runs? Did you find this more cushioned than the forever? Also did you have problems with the insole ? Reebok Symmetros stack height seems low but I have heard from a reliable source that its a higher stack height than the forever . Love to know of your thoughts.

I have picked up a 10.5 Reebok Symmetros on ebay so hope it comes in a week or so. I usually run in size 11 so hope it fits. Looking forward to trying it.

Thanks ahwhatthecheese for the recommendation. Got mine late today. Went 1/2 size down and its a good fit. One run in seems very smooth transition and you can pick up the pace, cushioned, light , stable and breathable. Very impressed. Thanks Steve
