Context is everything. If what you say is true, I bet it is also true that you had run near those times before, and were injured or similar.
This guy claims he could barely do an 11 minute mile, 260 pounds, and inside a year is running 4:55 mile and 16:30 5k and dead lifting 600 pounds. On minimal training, and still weighing near 200 pounds.
The proof will be in a legitimate race. If he never does one, that says enough.
Worm is a good runner and I think you are right, he's probably talking about coming back from injury. This reddit dude is a completely different story.
The Reddit bro didn't even bother to fabricate or lie about a high volume training plan to make it sound believable. He literally claimed that he made all that progress with basically just 95% EASY running, no structured speedwork except a few fartleks, and 40 mpw. WHILE lifting absurd amounts of weight at the same time.
It's not even remotely true and unless he runs an actual race, he is a fraud.
