A 30-year-old Black man was killed on a New York subway this week after a fellow rider, who is White, confronted the man when he was screaming and placed him in a chokehold for several minutes, according to a witness’s account and video of the encounter. https://t.co/8Evabzvagx

He has been involved in a lot of formal research into strength and conditioning specifically for endurance running.
He was recently on the a podcast called the the Sunday Plodcast. It is a really good listen. Worth listening to someone who really knows his stuff and has a PHD in exercise physiology.
As well as explaining what scientific evidence there is to support weight training he also adds anecdotal observations from working as a coach.
Richard recommends two weights sessions a week.
For lower body, in each session he recommends one squat type exercise (e.g. back squat, Bulgarian split squat) a lunge type exercise (e.g. lunge standing in place or reverse lunge, walking lunges) a hip hinge exercise (Romanian deadlift, deadlift, glute / hamstring bridge) and a stepping exercise (step ups with weights, step ups without letting the other foot touch the floor). For upper body one push exercise (e.g. push up or bench press) and one pull exercise (e.g. pull ups).
He also talks about incorporating some plyometrics into training and the importance of gradual introduction to strength training by using body weight and light weights to learn proper technique before starting to lift heavier.
He is a proponent of quality in the weights room and stimulating the central nervous system. He recommends no more than 6-8 reps or something like that from memory for each set. He believes in working in a way that stimulates changes you can't get by running and does not see the need for using weights as an aerobics session for example when you are running a lot. Also talks about working on specific weaknesses and identifying reoccurring injuries as areas of the highest risk to be strengthened by conditioning work.
This is what I mean...how do you deal with a political movement that is openly insurrectionist and has decided to be led by a criminal who loathes the United States and democracy? This is how democracy dies. When a large part of the nation does not want to ever lose an election again.
The GOP is by far the most dangerous organization on the planet against Americans.
Laura Bassett @LEBassett It's amazing how little Republicans give a * that their most likely candidate for POTUS right now has been criminally indicted, was impeached twice, AND is currently embroiled in a rape trial in which he's decided not even to defend himself
Just read an interesting idea. Since the day trump rode his golden escalator the press has not known how to report on him, pundits underestimate him, etc.
why? Because americans know *American* history. We know democracy and faith in institutions and peaceful transfers of power.
None of us has had to deal with trumpist authoritarianism, no american institutions have had to deal with it.
So we are trying to apply old standards of democracy to a movement that is anti-democracy and violent and interested in winning no matter following norms. The media doesn't know what to do with his lies and lawbreaking. Institutions don't know what to do with an openly criminal president who wants to suspend the Constitution.
It's a mismatch.
even now, m'aga texas is about to pass a law that lets a political appointee cancel election results in Houston. Millions of Democratic votes, poof, if one guy thinks that's the way to go. This is outside the american experience so we STILL don't know what to do.
It might be too late to figure it out.
Lesser Problem: The media and/or legal system almost certainly pus*y-footing with Trump/Trumpism more than they ought to. EVERYONE knew a long time ago what he's about. Treat him that way.
Much, Much Bigger Problem: America - even the vast of the folks only watching Fox - has been provided with MORE THAN ENOUGH evidence of what Trump and Trumpism is about. They either DON'T CARE, or LIKE IT. Period.
THAT is the problem. Not confusion. Not too much "fair play" by the good guys. Or anything else. Too many people on the bad guy/bad guys' side.

You really need to get out of your TDS bubble once in awhile.

Biden is much worse for the country than Trump.
Open your eyes.
JC you're a moran. Moreover, you're dishonest. You know damn well that if you were tasked with coming up with MORE illegal/unethical/un-American behaviors on the part of Biden in comparison to Trump - and if you failed, you'd die - you'd IMMEDIATELY sh** your pants.
You know how it really stacks up - easily. But something in your f***** up ego decides that it's more fun (and perhaps more pseudo-intellectually "satisfying"?) to be against the libs. And hell, even if they're not really libs (me, others), or not terribly liberal (Biden). You're just having fun hating another side.
F***** up beyond recognition.
And unfortunately, you're not alone, not by a long shot.
The leader of the Republican Party gumming up the courts with useless lawsuits.
Sure, Trump lost again. He always loses.
This time Trump has to pay legal bills to the New York Times.
Bigger issue: Trump is again fighting against a free press. He has always said there should be less reporting and he keeps trying. If he were president he might succeed.
A New York judge has tossed out Donald Trump’s lawsuit against The New York Times, and ordered the former president to pay all attorneys fees, legal expenses, and associated costs. Trump filed the lawsuit in 2021, alleging that the newspaper, three of its reporters and his niece Mary Trump engaged in an “insidious plot” to obtain his private records for a Pulitzer-winning story about his tax issues. While the court tossed out Trump’s claims against the newspaper and its reporters, the claims against the ex-president’s niece have yet to be ruled upon. “The New York Times is pleased with the judge’s decision today,” a paper spokesperson wrote in a statement to The Daily Beast. “It is an important precedent reaffirming that the press is protected when it engages in routine newsgathering to obtain information of vital importance to the public.” The twice-impeached former president’s claims against the defendants “fail as a matter of constitutional law,” New York Supreme Court Justice Robert R. Reed wrote in his ruling filed on Wednesday afternoon, deeming the paper’s newsgathering as being at “the very core of protected First Amendment activity.”

Biden is corrupt.
Biden weaponizes the government to attack his political opponents.
Biden's DoJ sits idly by why leftists threaten the CHILDREN of the SCOTUS judges that don't toe the Democrat party line.
You voted for the worst president in US history and you're proud of it.
The banks are failing. Inflation is through the roof. The economy is about to enter a recession. We're on the brink of World War 3. The border is WIDE open. Crime is out of control. But yea Trump and 10 fat guys with flags loitering at the Capitol are the real problem. You're a schmuck.
And it's hilarious to hear a guy who thinks being 500 miles from the warzone makes him a "combat veteran" accuse others of having a big ego.
House Oversight Committee has subpoenaed the FBI for a letter it has detailing bribery by a foreign government by then Vice President Biden.
It looks like the FBI has been collecting evidence on Biden and sat on it. I predict that McCarthy will build a strong case against Biden for impeachment proceedings by next year.

NEW YORK — An ex-FBI official who allegedly urged rioters to "kill" officers during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol was previously the supervisory special agent in charge of Homegrown Violent Extremism for the FBI New York Field Office's Joint Terrorism Task Force, a senior law enforcement official told NBC News. Jared Wise was arrested in Oregon this week, charged with four misdemeanor counts. After entering the Capitol building and exiting through a broken window, a FBI affidavit alleges, Wise yelled at officers outside the Capitol.
Crackhead Hunter is on the verge of being indicted, Baghdad agip.
The DoJ/FBI is only saying charges are imminent so they can claim the documents the senate just requested proving Biden is dirty AF are part of an ongoing investigation and can't be turned over. They will stone wall until Biden's term is up and he will pardon Hunter and then drop dead before the charges can be brought against himself.

Why doesn't Hunter pay his child support?
Hunter has plenty of money for crack. Hunter has plenty of money for hookers. Hunter has plenty of money for illegal guns. Hunter has plenty of money for luxury cars. Hunter has plenty of money for mansions. Hunter has plenty of money for high-profile lawyers. Hunter makes…

Justice Thomas seems to be a full employee of the Republican Party. Bought and paid for. But the payments are secret you see! Ah 'conservatives.' Smdh.
You know what - you conservatives better renew your focus on killing Disney, Bud Lite and the like. Because your open corruption smells very bad. No wonder you don't care your leader is twice-impeached and criminally indicted. Just keep focusing on transexuals and you should get your votes.
In 2008, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas decided to send his teenage grandnephew to Hidden Lake Academy, a private boarding school in the foothills of northern Georgia. The boy, Mark Martin, was far from home. For the previous decade, he had lived with the justice and his wife in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. Thomas had taken legal custody of Martin when he was 6 years old and had recently told an interviewer he was “raising him as a son.” Tuition at the boarding school ran more than $6,000 a month. But Thomas did not cover the bill. A bank statement for the school from July 2009, buried in unrelated court filings, shows the source of Martin’s tuition payment for that month: the company of billionaire real estate magnate Harlan Crow.
The payments extended beyond that month, according to Christopher Grimwood, a former administrator at the school. Crow paid Martin’s tuition the entire time he was a student there, which was about a year, Grimwood told ProPublica. “Harlan picked up the tab,” said Grimwood, who got to know Crow and the Thomases and had access to school financial information through his work as an administrator.
Thomas did not report the tuition payments from Crow on his annual financial disclosures.
A federal law passed after Watergate requires justices and other officials to publicly report most gifts. Ethics law experts told ProPublica they believed Thomas was required by law to disclose the tuition payments because they appear to be a gift to him.
Crow paid for private school for a relative Thomas said he was raising “as a son.” “This is way outside the norm,” said a former White House ethics lawyer.
And remember all this money went to justice thomas, whose wife spent the end of 2020 trying to overthrow democracy in America. All this billionaire bribing paid for ol'Ginni's 'end the American Republic' efforts.
And thanks to Thomas' lack of law-required disclosures, we would never have known where the money that helped let them do all that coup-making came from without reporters.
The money came from a right-wing billionaire!
And of course when you find a deeply unethical person and start pulling a thread on his acts, more and more comes out into the open. This isn't over.

More peaceful patriotic 'conservative' protestors being convicted!
he actually had a flag! How could they convict a guy carrying an American flag?????
Weird!
WASHINGTON — A member of the pro-Donald Trump online forum "The Donald," who espoused violent rhetoric and advocated for overthrowing the government, was convicted on 10 counts on Wednesday for repeatedly assaulting law enforcement officers at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. Jose Padilla, who was arrested in Georgia in February 2021, was convicted after a bench trial before U.S. District Judge John Bates. Video shows Padilla repeatedly attacking officers on Jan. 6, including by pushing up against officers and hitting an officer with a flagpole. He has been held in custody since his arrest. Padilla was found guilty of 10 crimes, including assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers; civil disorder; assaulting resisting, or impeding an officer with a deadly or dangerous weapon. He was found not guilty of just one count, which involved the mob pushing an enormous “TRUMP 2020: KEEP AMERICA GREAT!” against a police line because Bates found the evidence of Padilla's intent in that incident "ambiguous."
This is all good, but it's time to put the suits and not just the boots behind bars.
