I know I'm a little behind on this. But what kind of financial malpractice is this? We punish the people who pay their mortgage to give out subprime ones all over again?

Homebuyers with good credit scores will soon encounter a costly surprise: a new federal rule forcing them to pay higher mortgage rates and fees to subsidize people with riskier credit ratings who are also in the market to buy...

An hour later, when the Fox board approved the wire payment for $787.5 million — one of the largest known defamation settlements in history — Fox acknowledged what we needed it to acknowledge: spreading false claims comes with a huge price tag.

Donald Trump has gained command of the GOP presidential-nomination race over Ron DeSantis, a new Wall Street Journal poll finds, with the former president building support across most parts of the primary electorate as the Florida governor has struggled on the national stage.

You can lie to the Republicans all you want. Every day and (especially) twice on Sunday but it doesn't matter. The rubes love it.
A CNN host expressed skepticism that Biden can viably run for reelection when so many American citizen are skeptical of America's future on its current course.
It is amazing how much harm Biden and Co. (the Dems) have done to everyday Americans. He was handed an inflation rate of 1.4% from Trump and proceeded to pass vast spending bills to make the inflation rate skyrocket to over 10%. Americans can't handle an inflation rate of 10=plus%. And yet he and the dems wanted to ram through another $6 Trillion pork bill which would havethe inflation rate jump up to 15%. He IS ruining the country.
the US wasn't really a democracy until sometime in the 20c, after blacks and women could vote. So what exactly were 19c presidents defending? Some small portion of the nation that was allowed to vote.
And voting was approximate and corrupt in the 19c and early 20c...elections were stolen all the time. Even in LBJ's time local bosses would order people how to vote under threat, and they would import mexicans in to vote. Politicians were paid bribes, party bosses decided who would win elections, and graft and awarding jobs to political loyalists was the norm.
It was a bad time - far worse than anything we have in the US today.
But did any of them “stand beneath” their contemporaries more than Trump?
And did any of them ever try to stay in office after they lost?
Agip, the first question is subjective enough and very possibly complicated enough that I understand no reply.

Agip, the first question is subjective enough and very possibly complicated enough that I understand no reply.
But how about the second question?
were any presidents as materially amoral and unfit to serve as Trump, compared to their contemporaries? I am not sure how many qualify. Andrew Johnson (dude after Lincoln) is considered to be a particularly vile human being. He actively tried to stop reconstruction and was not ethical. He would have been impeached and removed but for one possibly bribed senator.
Did any former president attempt a coup? Absolutely not. No former president even seriously suggested staying in power or fighting it out to stay. No. That is to Trump's shame and everyone who voted for Trump's shame. And yet he will again be nominated for president and has a 2/5 chance of being reelected. That's how bad the 'conservatives' are at democracy. That's how bad this country is right now. No American should support DJT for president. Not even one, after his coup attempt. But tens of millions will happily vote for him. Shame on this country.
Hey, red states let’s make the gun laws even lighter!
REPUBLIC, Mo. — On April 18, Republic Police Department officers were called to a Price Cutter to respond to a call about a robbery in which a man held an employee at gunpoint so that he would be served meat. Larry Gene Gay, 70, of Springfield, is charged with one felony count of unlawful use of a weapon and a felony count of armed criminal action.

JUST IN: Joe Biden has announced that the U.S. military has conducted an evacuation of official personnel from the embassy in Khartoum, Sudan, while admitting he had again left Americans behind in the country after a week of escalating violence.

Biden says he will not help private American citizens get out of Sudan.
What a pathetic excuse we have for a Commander-in-Chief. This is the Afghan playbook all over again.
Try to defend this Baghdad agip.
Agip does not defend the indefensible of Democrats. It is almost like he relishes when Democrats engage in the indefensible. He is too busy working on his GOP Crime Blotter of petty crimes perpetrated by conservatives.

Biden will work day and night to make sure transgenders can participate in womens' sports but gives the middle finger to American citizens stuck in the Sudan. Worst president ever even including jimmy Carter and Millard Filmore.

Why do you continue to deflect? Be a man, address the Sudan situation and try to defend Biden's actions.

You and Sally COULD do a little Googling and see what, historically, the U.S.'s position/actions have been with respect to evacuating citizens from trouble spots? And then compare it to what the current administration is doing.
But you won't do that. But you will DEMAND answers from LRC posters about it.
Because you're tribal (and lazy) mo-rans.
Moreover, all 3 of the following are 99.999% sure to be true:
1) You didn't care in the least bit when Trump clearly didn't care in the least bit about LOTS of Americans dying from COVID (and the vast majority of the Americans still in Sudan ain't gonna die).
2) You wouldn't have cared in the least bit about how poorly Trump might have handled a pullout from Afghanistan.
3) You wouldn't have cared in the least bit about how poorly Trump might have handled a pullout from our embassy in Sudan.
