One of those names is a finalist for the job.
Is this related to the PNW job rumored to be opening up?
So PNW is basically Washington, Oregon, and some consider Idaho. For D-1, that's UW, WaSt, SU, EaWa, Gonz, UO, OrSt, UP, PtldSt, UId, BoiseSt, IdSt.
Which one is it? We already know about Gonzaga. It was already posted on here and the front page. Not a secret. Portland State is always in trouble and unstable. Maybe Rob at UP is getting long in the tooth and is ready to move on? He's been there a long time.
This posting should raise serious questions for any coach considering the job. They had a Director of XC/TF and a Head XC/Distance Track Coach, with roughly $105k allocated between the two full-time coaching salaries. Now the school appears to be consolidating the entire men’s/women’s XC + indoor/outdoor track operation into one Head Coach role for $52–55k?? That is not a serious investment in building a competitive program. That is a budget cut dressed up as restructuring. People need to be asking during interviews: Where did the rest of the salary allocation go? Will any of it stay in the program through assistant pay, scholarships, recruiting, travel, or operations? Why has there been so much turnover in the last several years? And what exactly is the plan to support one person overseeing four seasons, both genders, all event groups, recruiting, compliance, travel, staff management, and program culture?
There is a lot of that in the ncaa right now unfortunately. I think we will see a lot of programs phased out/ cut or combined in the next 3 years. I think you look at any level especially d1 and see the signs of it. very sad for the sport. But doesn’t mean you can’t still make a difference just harder to be competitive.
