Official William Goodge TransAus World Record Thread, Perth to Sydney, 35 days, 68.5 miles a day

I guess this criticism of isolation only applies to him running across Australia, and not anyone else? I assumed the accusation was he was taking an obtuse route, but if I compare it to the Perth->Sydney directions on google maps they look identical.

He's currently just outside Mildura, which has an airport that serves Melbourne and Sydney with multiple flights a day. But whatever, keep telling yourselves what you want to hear.

He’s coming into civilisation now, but for majority of the attempt it wouldn’t have been hard to ride in the van and pop out for a few km’s where necessary.

No, you really don't understand in the slightest the amount of time, money and work involved. And no we don't "drop" true statements because you stamp your foot and say so.

He’s very unlikeable and appears quite self-absorbed. I imagine his fan base is young men and teens who live vicariously through his cool-guy image. The most disgusting thing is disguising his self-obsession in a charity for his deceased mother. It’s sad and disturbing.

Perth is considered to be the most isolated major city in the world, literally.

They've hardly mentioned the charity stuff since the start of this run, though they did plug it yesterday for the first time in a while.

And I found it amusing that after I criticised him for complaining about poor sleep at the start of the run, when he had previously claimed Nucalm was his driving force in the US, suddenly within an hour he did a couple of adverts for sleeping aids.

But if they are so good, why were you complaining of bad sleep at the start of the run?!

In other news, turns out Goodge isn't the only English influencer up to no good on a coast to coast run down in Oceania. Russ Cook has been looking dodgy too.

It’s widely argued that violence is never morally justified. I don’t condone throwing rocks through anyone’s windows.

However when you come across the world, to personally accuse and attack someone’s character, then spend the next week being an insufferable c**t on their backside.

That definitely increases the chances of aggressive confrontation. Anyone with sub-optimal levels of testosterone would understand that.

Especially when you throw in the alleged driving incident that could’ve endangered an already irritated crew, it’s not hard to see how things escalated.

Reality is MOST people in this thread, proof of cheating or not, are just as insufferable as Will C. Mainly the against Goodge camp, but also the for Goodge camps.

Also yes, I know some of you are accomplished ultra runners, but to be honest you’re the little slice of everything wrong with the ‘community’.

There are plenty of athletes out there in your field who are the exact opposite.

There might be some valid points, but seeing how you express your views when referring to things that aren’t the points, it wasn’t for the record, you’d choose, and continue to spew negativity about something else, or someone else.

Just a bunch of dozen grown sour pusses on a message board reeking of elitism and judgement. I pray you turn up something credible so that you receive some validation about your sorry lives.

Newsflash, you not liking something does not equate to it not being truthful.

Something to bear in mind about con artist Robert Young is that he (mostly) rode in his RV from California to Kansas -some 1,500 miles- before Asher Delmott saw that RV trundling down the road at 5mph in the middle of the night, with Robert Young nowhere in sight, at several points along the route. So in a country with almost 12 times Australia's population, and in a slightly smaller land mass, Young was able to perpetuate his scam halfway across the continent before being caught cheating red-handed. And then when Laz Cantrell and Team Geezer arrived to to observe Young in person shortly afterwards and he was then forced to, you know, actually run, he predictably came apart like a cheap suit within days.

I don't understand why some Goodge acolytes somehow seem to think it would be impossible for him to cheat without being observed doing so as he crosses Australia, as Young was (almost) able to do just that while crossing a far more densely populated nation. And I have no doubt that if Goodge were subjected to the same level of boots-on-the-ground scrutiny as fellow scam artist Young, he too would rapidly unravel.

That's a very unusual take on human psychology. If I claimed to be able to do something I could actually do-- and was, in fact, in the process of doing it-- and someone showed up to see for himself if I was for real, I would say to him "welcome, and watch this", as I think any non-fraudulent person would. Why would Goodge have been hostile towards Will C if he could easily have just given him a day or two of what he wanted and turned him into a supporter?

If Goodge had just demonstrated for a single day that he actually could do what his data had been showing-- i.e. accelerate in the second half of his long days whilst recording a HR in the low 100s, I can guarantee you Will C would have shaken his hand, gone back home, and proceeded to report to any and all that he had seen a remarkable feat of endurance running.

And I'd be the last one to deny that this place is very often a cesspit of cynicism and general negativity. But the threads that have featured crowd-sourced analysis of possible cheating behavior in the sport have been very useful (and, of course, entertaining). Everyone here has a fondness for running-- or at least used to-- regardless of ability, and no one likes a fraudster. I can assure you, most of use had never heard of Will Goodge, and many of us were not close followers of ultra runing, so there was never anything personal going on here. But since his Transcon, this guy, with his insane data and tough guy schtick, has been absolutely begging for the LRC fraud-buster treatment. And he may yet escape, but he won't be unscathed. And he will have a much harder time doing this again.

Had Goodge been caught, and people continued to defend him, that would be a great basis for comparison. But Goodge hasn't been caught, so there's no similarity at all.

OK, well he's now running directly toward one city of 5 million people, and all the time will be within a day's drive of another city of 5 million people. So instead of coming up with excuses, try actually do something to get Goodge observed. You guys had weeks to do this with the America run and failed. You've been given a second chance, so try to actually take it.

Great map. if you are being absolutely paranoid, you might say that west to east is the obvious way to do it; a few hard days at the start when yuo cant cheat, followed by a massive amount of cheaty bits so that when you are back in civilisatoin, you have done most of it and can give up if being followed.

east to west doesnt work since you have to do too many days nt cheating and will be knackered too early on.

the other paranoid bit is like rob young, the rv stays with wg al the time doesnt it? this stupid thing to do must be because the watch is in a gadget in the rv, or the land rover caravan whatever. it was Laz who said, drive a bit, wait, drive a bit, wait. dont exactly shadow the runner because it blocks the traffic (in town obv), but also neither me nor my vehicles could actually do 5mph constantly, its very very difficult.

What's your motive here, exactly? Genuine question. Ours is obvious, but why are you championing this bloke? For attention or because you actually believe he's doing what he's saying?
