Hedengren is not an 800m runner. She's a mile/3k/2mile/5k runner plus a National Champion (and course record holder) in XC. Her performance record speaks for itself.
What are you talking about? She’s by far the best female HS distance runner in history and there’s been at least a hundred posts alone, about how tall she is. Her NXN win and her 2-mile and 5000m records received extensive coverage on LR
She's very good; she's not within spitting distance of being the best. How many World Records and American Records has she broken? I think that number is zero and the most likely number when she retires will be zero WRs. There are a lot of people here who are uninformed about Mary Decker.
"When she was 12, she competed in the Pakis Verde Marathon one day ran the 440 and 880in an age-group meet the next. The following Saturday she ran the 440, 880, mile, and two-mile. The day after she had her appendix out..... In 1973, at 14, Decker was eligible to enter "open" races against the best women in the country. She beats of 4:37.4 in the mile and 2:02.4 in the 800. ...... In February 1974 she set an indoor World Record of 2:02.4 in San Diego. In July she win the USA vs. USSR 800 meters in 2:02.3. From Kenny Moore, Best Efforts, @1983.
By the way, what is Jane's 800 PR. Was it set on an old indoor track (11 laps per mile?). Also Jane had a great senior year but was not at that level at 14 (no 4:37 miles).
Hedengren had the greatest senior year ever of distance running for a HS female. Her 2-mile and 5000m records are mind boggling and if she had been in college this year, those times would be 2nd (3000m conversion) and 7th on the all-time list.
You really believe that whatever she ran as a 14-year old detracts from her incredible season? She’s not a middle distance runner, so I don’t know why you’re comparing her to Decker.
Huh? Did Tuohy retire? I was under the impression that she is still running utilizing the best technology and training. It isn't like we are talking about Mary Slaney. Jane is faster than Tuohy right now. She is faster than Tuohy's lifetime bests. What a silly post.
This is about high school, so not improving much is not included. But note, let's see if she can win XC titles that matter if you are dumping on Touhy. And Touhy wins hands down in three of the four years of high school.
How many World Records did she get. How many important International races did she win? Jane is good but you are delusional if you think that her high school record is better than Mary's.

Hedengren is the best HS distance runner in history. That's the claim and that is the case. What she did at 14 is irrelevant unless we change the claim to the best 14 year old in history.
Are you counting 1500 as a distance event? If so, Mary Cain was better in HS by almost any measure.

Nah, Gerry Lindgren ran 8:40i on a 10 lap wooden track in someone else's spikes wearing 2 pairs of socks, plus 4:01 for the mile and 13:44 for the 5k. He gets my vote. He was as close to world class as Jane is, 60 years prior.
The indoor 2 mile world record was 8:29 when Gerry ran his 8:40 and the world mile record was 3:54 when he ran his 4:01. 11 seconds and 7 seconds off of the WRs respectively.
His 5k of 13:44 was only 9!!! seconds off of the current WR of 13:35.
Cain, Ryun, Decker, Lindgren, Webb, Hedegren. There is a list of dozens of runners better than Tuohy. Tuohy's lifetime best is slower than a hugh schooler.
Hendregen was very likely doping this season and everyone here knows it. Everyone. Anything in this sport that is too good to be true is fake. Whenever you use a term like "mindboggling", just write "doping". Makes things much more honest.
Yawn. Meanwhile we saw an athlete who was an afterthought, who no one saw as the top high school runner, who lost her first Xc race of her senior season, turn 18 (when you could no longer be charged with endangering a minor) and suddenly become faster than virtually every college runner let alone high school. Natural talent? Lollll. Plus she had the overinvolved stage dad, the pro coach and older training partners who themselves had very suspicious progressions. Yes, doping is the overwhelming likelihood. Once people saw doping in college as perfectly fine, high school was going to immediately follow.

True. But you are still stuck in this thread. It‘s almost like if you cannot stop thinking about Tuohy if you want to discuss high school running. TDS.

I hadn't heard this - who is the pro coach and who are the training partners with suspicious progressions?
