Wow big news out of mid Michigan. Sources are telling me that’s Mike Scannell (Grant Fishers old HS coach) is strongly considering coaching MENS distance only at Saginaw Valley and apparently was on campus yesterday for interviews.
Watch out for this big news to be announced in the next day or two

It just happens to be a year where it seems like half the of the 30+ DI schools in California have turned over their head track coaches. A lot going on out west.

I don’t think he was a HS coach, was he? He coached kids privately and ended up with a small group. But he had a pretty good non coaching job at the time so maybe the considering part is that he’s retiring or cutting back on that.
Any word on the Head Coaching positions at Frostburg Sate University and Southwest Minnesota State University?

Most of the best distance coaches in this country are probably HS coaches, they identify talent and develop it from scratch, the so called good college coaches recruit the talent and if hope they don't screw it up. The most successful of that group are the ones who recruit enough talent so that even when they do screw it up, they have enough able bodies left to be successful.

He didn't say one was harder than the other. You just proved his point that they are DIFFERENT. Running isn't just running as someone previously claimed. Recruiting as a college coach is so different than developing raw high schoolers. Both have their challenges. The point is a high school coach can't just move into college and expect to have the same success because the challenges are different. Doesn't mean there aren't good HS coaches who could do it.

Great point! There are three coaches at USA Nationals that JJ Clark is very interesting in having on his Stanford staff. He has talked to all three at length. And offers have been made to two of them. Two of them are distance coaches. And one of them is a middle distance coach who coaches in the Pac-12. The ball is rolling!
Well good for Montana! Bringing in a coach that produced a plethora of 26:00/27:00 8k guys and 23:00/24:00 6k women. Should be competitive in the Big Sky and Mountain Regional. And yes, I know he was at the DIII level.
Is this further evidence of the current debate on this thread about HS coaches having trouble transitioning to college no matter how good you were at the HS level. This guy was a former 18 time coach of the year in Montana. Note: this isn't a commentary on his personality, how good of a family man he is, or any other non-coaching category, it's about results and the ability to produce them.
