The smart strategy for the GOP is to own some ideas of their own and appear as if they are dictating the terms. Right now they are only blocking and being useless. This is a huge gamble at a time when they are not in a strategic position to pivot back. They have no platform, still worship the loser, and the party is in a civil war. In 2022, they could easily give back their House gains and take a 2-4 seat beating in the Senate, in which case they will be royally screwed going into 2024 as Biden will ramp up all his popular initiatives.
Yes, the Republicans have their problems.
But Democrats have trouble getting people out in midterms, especially when they recently won and are content.
With the House, there are many deep red districts that simply won't ever vote Democrat.
The swing districts are all about what is going on locally and are unpredictable.
Republicans will be going after senate seat gain in Georgia and Arizona.
They need to repress voting to get that done and still have local power to do that.
On the other side, Democrats would like to gain Pennsylvania, Ohio and North Carolina.
They all have Republican senators who are retiring.
Plus they can flip back Wisconsin.
With the GQP not trying to move on from trump, I think the loss may still be very sore in 2022 and with the base feeling deflated at least the Senate will be locked in for Dems.
