The timing here is terrible on top of him being a terrible candidate. You could imagine how the major donors are reacting after this awful midterm result. A clear split of the GOP can now only be avoided if they agree that this is going to be a throw away election and decide to collectively endorse, but make little financial effort to back agent orange. Clearly the donors know trump is the favorite still, but that he is unable to win. They must have also floated the idea of a Trump/DeSantis ticket, but that is a also not a possibility due to trump's fragile ego. Putin is also busy losing a war, so he might not be able to help much. My prediction stands that if trump is nominated the presidential election map is going to look like that of Reagan's 2nd term - but will be blue of course.
