Good point on the 3min versus 1k rep. Sustainability is key.
Its funny because in reflecting on my training leading up to my race I think longer slower reps might benefit me more than shorter faster reps. Like I wasn't lacking "leg speed", I closed the race with a pretty quick (relatively speaking) last 800/400/200m, just felt gassed in km's 3 and 4.
So more time at some subthreshold level is probably gonna help more than trying to eke out intervals at "the fastest allowable pace". Anyways I'll give it a try for a couple months.. see how things progress.
