What can't every athlete just do it. Quite running two weeks before a major event and then set an AR? If Kara was in on the "plans" at NOP why doesn't she know about it? Whay would only Rupp have access to this?

What this sounds like is slow down the training levels. Let the drugs build up in the body. And then go out two weeks later to set an AR.

Nike is just following the tactics that they used with Golden Boy Lance: they attacked the accusers integrity repeatedly.

When the truth came out Nike quietly gave up and skulked away. The same thing will happen here down the road, IMHO. What an aggressively dirty company !!!!

It would probably be a good idea to add the 'auto generated' label so it's clear. That said, I'm consistently stunned that people don't understand what that means by this point, and how often they make threads complaining about the Super Hot on the front page.

Lance directly rebuffed the claims of others, then actively tried to bury them and their reputations. I don't think AlSal and Co. have done anything other than try to refute the claims against them. Also, people making all these comparisons to Lance Armstrong need to remember that Lance was accused of doping, he said he didn't dope, and it turns out he lied. In this case, people are saying NOP was cheating, the NOP is saying that they do things that some would consider cheating but aren't against the rules, and it will likely turn out that the latter is true. Goucher may believe that NOP cheated; but her understanding of what constitutes cheating may not be in line with the powers that be, and therein lies the difference with the Lance Armstrong situation.

Big money sponsors have a lot to lose. Not as much to lose as multi-millionaires Farah and Salazar. It's all about the money. Farah and Salazar are enthralled by it. They will do whatever it takes to get as much as they can.

It applies to well trained athletes, not weekend warriors or those with meager physiological assets.

So in your case, you won't be able to bring your 5k PR down from 18:00 to 17:00 by taking two weeks off after your "season" ends.

Then you weren't reading the long threads about Salazar and NOP at all. Every other post was a personal attack.

Salazar's rambling explanation didn't fit with other facts at all. The response was always another personal attack.

In Armstrong's case, the federations (USA Cycling and the UCI) were assisting Armstrong. We already have ample evidence the IAAF and USATF are as corrupt, if not more, than the cycling federation.

You would have us believe then, that USATF is protecting the integrity of the sport (sponsored by Nike) and operated in a transparent manner such that PED use is controlled and rules applied fairly. That's a fairy tale.

Logic is not a skill you possess. Any athlete will be limited by their potential. Everyone has a ceiling. Will Nick Willis ever run a 3:25 1500m? We'll have to wait and see but not likely.

The reason most elite runners can't do what Rupp did is they are not well trained or they train improperly. Most athletes over train and get injured or burned out by season's end. Also, few coaches actually know what they are doing. Whatever you think of Salazar, his program is all about injury prevention and proper peaking, backed up by lots of research and constant testing. Even if PEDs are involved, the coach still needs to adhere to physiology and proper training. If it were otherwise, even a couch potato like you could make a national team.

Can I just say, this whole sausage party of bitter old burnouts has created the best crazy thread ever. Goucher fans everywhere thank you. I've never seen her more confident and you are all just giving it the attention it deserves. You're mad and think she needs attention? You give her attention she didn't even ask for. It doesn't take a genius to see what kind of messages have been getting traction lately, and those messages are not the traditional, gracious, profanity-free ones. Take a certain real estate mogul running in the GOP primary for example. People seem to like "anti-PC" messaging these days, and since Kara missed the Olympic team (at least in the marathon), she says exactly what she thinks and gets a lot of press for doing it, thereby staying "relevant".

Love it or hate it, it's not a bad media strategy for an athlete who is likely past her prime.
