The "Hot Now" thing you see on the front page from time to time IS auto-generated when a post is receiving a disproportionate number of responses in a short period of time.

The "What People Are Talking About on LetsRun" list at the bottom of threads is also auto generated using a similar metric to "Hot Now."

I agree that is the case if Person "A" says the above and knows it to be false. However, everyone they tell does not know it to be knowingly false. And rumors aren't usually that clear cut. Someone might say, "I think athlete X tested positive because of XYZ". As it gets passed down it becomes something more concrete or even more distorted. Or in this case the 4th post of this thread, "Centro tested positive. Hence why he hasn't raced as of late. Word will eventually leak out." Is the poster saying "I know" that happened or "I heard". They are different things. Your implication is it is the "I know" but it's an anonymous message board so I think some people might go for the "I heard" interpretation.

I don't feel better about US running now. I don't feel worse about it or LetsRun either. When, Regina Jacobs pulled out of the 2000 Olympics, people were crazy with speculation as to why.

If someone at the time had said, "She tested positive" I wouldn't know it to be false (yet it would have been).

Let's take a better example an athlete who didn't eventually test positive, Paula Radcliffe. If before Athens, she said, "I can't compete because of injury" and someone else said, "she is withdrawing because of a drug positive" I wouldn't have known the latter is false.

I think the best course of action is to let the issue to be discussed and for the athlete to issue the statement like Matt did in this instance. This was already being discussed offline. Now at least it is out in the open and Matt can address it. I first heard a rumor the middle of last week. We've always said is LetsRun is the continuation of what people are talking about on their runs once they get online.

Regardless of what the situation is for Centro. This my take on what I see as the ever increasing heavy handedness of USADA.

USADA claims there is a positive result, but the positive is based not on a test result, but is instead based on a special positive definition invented by the USADA that athletes do not know exists.

The definition looks extremely odd to Centro, his family, the people at NOP, and the people at Nike. They decide that the USADA is incorrect, and that they did not follow their official procedures. Now this becomes easy. Rather than the burden being placed on Centro to explain a positive test result--there isn't one--the burden is on the USADA to explain and defend their "special positive definition." My guess is, the USADA will not be able to apply the new definition because cannot back it up with a real positive test result.

USADA hasn't announced anything. this is all wild speculation

News flash, racing a marathon is not something you do if you have a nagging injury keeping you from training. Hell even starting a marathon with some kind of injury (even mild and new) is questionable.

If it's a new test that is catching an obscure, minute

metabolite, going back 6 months, then people would be

running for the hills.

What's a "sudden drop" from a race? Can an athlete gradually pull out of a competition? There comes a point when an injury is such that you know you can't compete and you pull out.

If this thread turns out to be true, I am going to need to take a break from the internet for a day, the sheer amount pwnage and justice will make everything else seem so bland... I'll definitely have to take off, no question about that... I'll probably even go crush a 18 minute 5K somewhere instead of working... #staytruetothesport

The thing is that he hasn't SPECIFICALLY replied to anything. This, coupled with actual rumors that you heard earlier last week, still leaves enough doubt that something is up... and this thread is actual decent evidence for now (perhaps why certain people want it deleted?)
