Will running unattached become more prevalent in CA? That’s two in consecutive years from one school.
I hope not. The point of running in high school is that it's giving your focus to training without the stress of being an adult. In high school these kids are alive with the joy of finding your limits. Moving too quickly to the pro or unattached level puts a lot more pressure on them. Training alone without the mental and physical resilience of fully mature adults. I saw this with Sadie. I didn't see this with Noonan.
Are you somehow suggesting Noonan’s decision to run for his high school team worked out better than Sadie’s decision to run unattached? From what point of view?
Yep. Toxicity of those private coaches. They don't care about anyone or teams, except the individuals that are paying them.
Wait a sec. You mean to tell me that in a capitalist country someone cares more about the person who is paying them than they care about the person who isn't paying them? Shocking! What else did you expect?
I expect teams to keep those kind of coaches out because they are toxic and don’t help the team or their athlete’s future. They just help themselves to continue to get paid.
Parents want the best "results" for their children. Not all, but many of these HS distance athletes are getting better/faster with private coaching. Is it the private coaching itself, or the fact that private coaching almost always includes a shift towards college level volume training in HS, running 20+ miles per week over the HS programs they left. Does that leave less room for growth in college? Probably, but college feels like professional sports now so I'm not sure what the right answer is.
Sjs glazers ready to cheer for Jesuit post season cheating. Again.
If you want to glaze SJS you should look at how many they got through in that SFL League already. With the at large results the Varsity 3200 advanced 16 girls and 15 boys.

Here's an interesting fact: Only 3 girls in CA (since Milesplit data started in 2000) had the top times in the state in the 800M, 1600M and 3200M.
Summer Wilson raced at a league meet? I don't see anything in Athletic since NB Indoors.
Aelo's ineligibility is absurd. Yes, she should have known the risk regarding the rule, but the problem is that the rule is rubbish. Sure, any records set while running in college or pro race should not count as a high school time, but to make an athlete completely ineligible from competing for CIF is absurd. There are few athletes worthy of racing at a higher level during high school, and there should be some allowance (maybe they can race higher competition twice or something) for them to get pulled by faster runners to test their fitness and speed. Regardless, CIF sucks for completely eliminating 2 seasons of Aelo's HS track career and 1 season of Sadie's HS career. They're allowed to have paying NIL's, but they can't run in a fast race outside of HS competition? Dumb.
And the crazy thing is High School runners from other states compete in those same meets and keep their eligibility.
Can't imagine anyone has any issues with this. Coach Weaver knows how to put on a damn good meet and the Buchanan facility is top-notch.
I have a big issue with this. It’s 100 degrees which is completely unhealthy to run in. The 1600 is one of the first races and it’s more like a survival event in that heat.
They should rotate the meet annually between UCLA and Stanford. It’s much easier getting to LA and San Francisco than Fresno. Even Mt Sac would be better. Also hosting the state meet at a high school is so small time. Almost every big state holds the state championship at a large university. (New York being the other to have it at a high school.)

>UCLA and Stanford
Absolutely not. LA traffic is horrendous, UCLA's parking situation is god-awful as-is, and Drake stadium is a nightmare to get to, not to mention it has close to zero seating in comparison to Veterans memorial.
Stanford is a 40 minute drive from San Francisco (101/280 traffic already isn't great), and Cobb's seating situation is even worse than Drake (they have one set of seats near the home stretch), not to mention there are literally zero designated places to warm up in the surrounding area. They roll out a black rubber mat for hurdlers during SI and PJI.
Mt. Sac would not be better. The track's layout sucks for spectators in comparison to veterans memorial, theres no room for vendors, and the meet director is.. not a great guy.
>Hosting the meet at a high school is small time
Veterans memorial stadium is better than 95% of college facilities. They host mountain west and have hosted NCAA regionals there for good reason. They have more than enough parking, spacious warm-up areas, good room for vendors, tons of seating, more volunteers than you could ever want, and most importantly - tons of experience hosting the state meet. The heat isn't great but we could just move the meet an hour later instead. It's quite pleasant at night, actually.
>Almost every big state holds the state championship at a large university
Almost every other state has 6 divisions with "state champions" for each one. Should we copy that too? Just because everyone else does it doesn't mean we should too. Plus, a HIGH SCHOOL should host the HIGH SCHOOL championships. Makes sense to me.

There is quite literally no better venue for the CIF state meet than Veteran's Memorial Stadium. Not only with all the points Mictlantecuhtli brought up, but also location wise, it makes the most sense out of all the venues that has hosted the meet in the past.
Fresno is perfect because it is quite literally right in the middle of CA, so majority of state qualifiers travel an equal distance to arrive there (roughly 3-3.5 hours from Sacramento, 3-3.5 hours from LA)
If you are addressing heat as an issue, what the hell makes you think UCLA would be any warmer? Or even Stanford? Dealing with hot temperatures is sadly just inevitable in the sport, especially that time of year. The only possible solution would be a stadium in San Francisco, and even then I don't know how much justice that would serve.
Also, let's not go back to the rotation between Sac City and Cerritos like how it was for decades. Since 2009, Buchanan has rightfully served as the heart of the state meet
I agree that Buchanan is a fine location for the meet every year. No reason to change it now. They could use a schedule adjustment when heat comes up though and find a better time of day for the 1600s on both days.
Does anyone know where the SJS masters meet is being hosted this year? I saw some schedules list it as Sac City but I'm not sure if it's accurate. I'm guessing Folsom HS again?
