Biden's forgiving student debt might have won midterms. It let young people say 'hey it matters who wins elections - my peers just got some debt relief. The Rs didn't want that to happen. I hate them. I better go vote.'
Plus abortion is key to young people of course.
Suggests that Biden is a good political strategist - he knew he had to get the young people to show, so he made a very loud very public action. The young people heard it and showed up.

Agip - really ... you don't understand? the student debt was never "forgiven?" Do you have no clue what was done? REally, Agip??? The student debt was NEVER FORGIVEN. Get that through your head. It was simply transferred from those who benefited from the debt to those who never took out the debt inthe first place. Come on Agip - you are sounding like a clown. The debt was never relieved.
"Gerrymandering" update for Agip: Republicans winning by 6% nationally, yet holding onto a razor thin margin in the hosue. Like I said a few months ago, Republicans aren't gaining from gerrymandering, and might even be hurt by it.

Of course west coast blue states will take until Christmas to get their votes in so the gap might close by another million.
yeah I saw that...we'll wait to see what happens in the final tally. Not sure how to interpret it. I suspect it is too early and there are subleties like lots of Rs running in uncontested seats in trumplandia. That would juice the R vote only because the Ds had no one to vote for.
on the other hand, in I think Wisconsin, Dems win 50% or more of the vote but only get 30% of the state house seats. WI is essentially not a democracy because of gerrymandering.

Sad development if illegal and unconstitutional bribing worked.

so I suppose trump still announces next week but man what a terrible terrible week he's having.
the Rs got smacked around and everyone is blaming him
many ma'ga candidates outright lost
his company is on trial in NY and the Trump CFO is testifying against the trump organization.
R muckamucks are lining up behind DeSantis, who had a great night in FL.
and trump has backed himself into a corner - if he announces it will trigger a bunch of 'trump is damaged goods' stories but if he doesn't announce he looks like a coward.
Ouchies!
You better hope Trump runs. It is the only chance the Dems have in 2024, Desantis will easily get elected.

like rich Rs funding the R party to give themselves tax breaks the nation can't afford, amirite?
but yeah...this is a constant problem for a democracy - that we depend on congress to rationally use the purse. There is no guarantee that congress will do that. This is a danger of the polarized two party system - where a rock could be elected in most districts. Democracy depends on the ability to vote out the bad eggs. And it's hard to do that when we vote for parties and not people and we always vote the same. We are depending on Pelosi and McCarthy and Schumer and McConnel to be responsible stewards. Could happen. Might not happen.

I still don't think desantis will run in 2024. He has a glass jaw and isn't charismatic enough. he doesnt' have the kind of fight in him that would make him want to subject him and his family to the onslought of m'aga. I mean trump will endanger desantis' family. And just cover everyone in poop.
more likely desantis will let trump run in 2024 and lose, and then the entire GOP will look to desantis in 2028.
On the other hand, desantis' wife is young and hot so trump will respect him for that.

another way to answer the question is to look at popular vote totals. Rs have won ONE popular vote in what - the last 8 elections?
There simply aren't a whole lot of Rs. Certainly a lot fewer than you think. Rs live in red geographic bubbles and therefore think we live in a red nation. We don't. We live in a blue nation with low youth voting rates. Biden got the kiddos to vote this time and it was the strongest midterms for a ruling party in generations. Expect more gestures to the young. That's how democracy works.
And now that MI has had a blue tsunami, you may not be able to turn the upper midwest red after all. so teh electoral college might not ensure minority rule in the future.

Pelosi, Mcconnel, Schumer, and Mccarthy had nothing to do with student debt payoff. Pelosi even said it's unconstitutional. Biden just ordered it to happen anyway.
Awesome democratic constitutional republic with checks and balances we have
It's simply not true that there's some great Democrat majority out there if only Democrats could boost turnout.
Well how do you explain that Dems have won the popular vote for president something like 7 of the last 8 times?
What's there to explain? They got fewer votes, usually by very small margins that can easily be overcome with a better candidate.
2022, 2014, 2010, 2004, 2002, 1994 etc are elections too. It's a mistake to only focus on presidential elections and, imo, a misunderstanding of how government works.
