That's an out of date quote. I got an email from the chief operating officer of the Goconqur group who run LA Marathon. He said they were in the process of reviewing Frank, watching video footage etc and thanked the running community for their patience.

Agreed , which is why I chose the words “best ever” and not “record.” I’m not trying to quibble. I know that nobody has called this a record (although I suppose that by default it is the L.A. Marathon age group record).

And perhaps it was the correspondence about a review that made me think they’re on a time frame and have possibly given Frank some opportunity to “prove it” with GPS or whatever.

Gene Dykes set such a chill tone through all of this. Initially, he was excited by the prospect of potentially competing head-to-head against Frank Meza, perhaps in a record setting marathon. Once Meza had been made, Gene Dykes was like, meh, I'm still excited to run Toronto.

It's my understanding that Meza's position is still that his times are legitimate, but he's not currently training because the fun has been taken out of running for him.

Well, what if the two athletes agreed raced each other? They could run a half. It'd give Meza an opportunity to get his training back on track, and regain some of the "fun" he has running. It would end the debate. Both could run for charity, so it could be for a worthwhile cause.

While you are probably joking, this is the real problem with this whole situation. When one person cheats at a WR or high level event, it brings a cloud of suspicion on every other competitor . Who doesn’t think ‘professional cyclists’ and then ‘PEDs’, or Russians and doping. This is not a victimless event.

Don’t worry about trolls who want to gum up the investigation, just keep posting with intelligence, humor, and perseverance; qualities they’ll never have.

this will never happen, b/c fm hasn't run a real race in years and couldn't hold gene's pace for 5k, let alone a half marathon. if he wanted to prove himself, he would have done so shortly after the allegations came out. instead, he lobs empty threats of retaining counsel and somehow convinces LAM not to dq him but instead offer up an observer for 2020... we all know he will never run any serious event w/ an observer, b/c he is no where near a 2:52 marathoner. we'll likely hear some lame excuse as to why he can't run anymore.

Go to Strava, search for Gene Dykes, you want the one with the Welsh placename, it doesn't take long to find his GPS of his Boston Marathon 2:58 back in April
