1. Medical boards deals with medical complaints. Negligence, not following medical standards of care, violations of patient rights/privacy, inappropriate behaviors towards patients, etc. There's ZERO room for a non medical complaint such as cheating at a race. Please don't waste California taxpayer dollars to force some state employee to have to read this have to present it.

2. What do you expect his employer to do exactly? Fire him because there's evidence that he cheated, even though the LA Marathon didn't actually DQ him? Do you understand that in today's world, an employer can't just decide to fire someone without cause that impacts job performance? I don't disagree that the guy has poor ethics and that likely he's had poor ethics as a doctor. But he can't be fired over a non crime unrelated to his job. If they were to fire him, he'd likely win A LOT of money in court for wrongful termination.

Medical doctors are held to the highest regard in society largely because of the strict ethical standards of their profession. They literally make life and death decisions, unlike most of the rest of us. They are given a very wide berth in many aspects of society because society knows that there are repercussions from their peers (licensing boards) for immoral and unethical behaviors.

So... OK Smoove - would you go to a doctor who you knew cheated like this? Yes or no?

And if the answer is NO, then shouldn't his actual patients and professional peers know about this moral and ethical issue, so they can make their own decision as well?

I’m torn.

On the one hand, I don’t think he should lose his job. On the other hand, medically speaking, I wouldn’t want him anywhere near any of my family.

To me the nature of this extended cheating creeps me out.

cheaters only come clean when the stakes for continuing to deny the allegations become too high...like Lance Armstrong denials until he was facing possible jail. Frank will never come clean. He most likely will race and cheat again, but probably under a different name.

Sad thing is there are probably many poor Latino mothers in the LA community who use Frank as a role model for their children...someone to emulate, someone to respect and to aspire to follow. He didn’t have to cheat, as many point out it means little. Unfortunately he chose to cheat. He is sending the message to everyone that once you are successful you can do whatever you want without consequence, and he’s not even President.

No, I would not see Frank as a medical professional.

Yes, I think that his patients should have the opportunity (not your phrasing, I acknowledge) to know about his antics.

I think that the attention ( and search engine optimization) that this thread has generated will give those patients the opportunity.

He simply will not lose his medical license over this. Frankly, based on the comments here, I’m not even sure he actually sees patients. So the end result is that this simply means that folks who are considering using him, if any, would need to Google him to learn of this event, regardless of whether we filed a complaint with the state licensing board or not.

Yes and yes.

On second thoughts:

Maybe and maybe (it is Frank after all).

He’s in his 70s, he’ll just retire if he receives any pressure from regulators.

But should he still be working with kids?

I’m curious how many marathons he ran prior to Boston in 2008.

Did he cheat his way in, then run a real time in Boston (arguably a much harder race to cheat at), then fall into a trap of telling people how poorly his Boston run was (roll out the litany of excuses). Then, instead of getting out or just running his real times, he seeks to affirm he really is “that good.” Roll the tape on Frank cheating over and over and actually “improving” as he ages.

Frank Meza ran 3:27:23 at the Santa Clarita Marathon about 5 months before the 2008 Boston Marathon. The qualifying standard for 55-59 in 2008 was 3:45

He didn't even run fast enough at Boston to re-qualify. He would have needed a 3:45. I think we may have found one race where he didn't cheat. If he had cheated, I'm sure he would gotten something a lot more impressive than 4:25 and near the back of the pack for the AG.
