good race for and 3rd medal spot , NEB were impressive and quite good to watch with alot of changing places behind NEB throughout.
God we were right then, no Northerners in the top times AT ALL, shows how crap the Northern relay was after all.
Interesting to see Gerrard has switched to the Beagles, they're just going to end up even stronger!
Bilham, Geele and Gerrard...three top young talents are running for them now...
three impressive junior performances:
tom bilham - 17.50
mitch goose - 18.06
lewis timmins - 18.08
maybe if goose worried as much about his runnning as he does colour coordinating his socks he could challenge bilham.
what a dickhead you are north sucker.
Oh come on! We need more characters like Goose in the sport!
Okay they look a little odd from time to time (and I must admit I blanched when I first saw the red, yellow mix!), but he's a talented young runner who causes a bit of a stir!
Unlucky Bels, but looks like there were some good teams out there.
Ward- are you still at Cambridge? If so hopefully we'll meet in a race soon. (fresher at Oxford)
Nobody gave Tipton a chance in 'their oh so wise' predictions.
We were pushed on by incentives of a bag of scratchings and a mint humbug if we medalled. Gutted we didnt get gold as we would have won a can of grey peas each.
Off to blend my my scratchings and use it as my post race recovery drink after my long run today.
agreed but bels have some young talent in wicks,jones,blackledge,billington,ward,2xgausen both teams look healthy for the future
Totally, I've been impressed by Wicks all summer as he's progressed from that early 48 clocking at the Maidenhead 10 and then a very convincing win at a Watford BMC overr 1500, the lad's got a good range.
and Jon is just awesome, I was training with him a few weeks back (he wasn't totally well, had a bad headache), and to start with I was running off him thinking " this isn't too bad" for the first 2 minutes of a 5 minute interval....Then he started running...I kept with him for about a minute more but then had to drop back or screw up teh rest of my session, his pace is just tremendous.
Billington is a good lad as well, needs to slow down a little on his warm-ups and make sure he knows where he is! (last time we did a warm-up together we must have been going 6 mm (Practically knackering me out) and only got to the start in time because they held it up (only by a minute or so...as I was my clubs best runner and Greg Newmarkets both clubs wanted to wait!).After we'd been lost for the best part of 1/2 an hour running around Newmarket (his home area!).
Surprised at gausens time a little, after his Xc performances last winter was expecting something a little fsater? He's a top class runner though and I guess the track season probably took a little out of him.
Just like to comment. Ward was at his best when living at home and training with the big group at Kingston. Too bright for his own good, I think it is likely that his study and career prevent him showing us just how good he could be.
Blackledge is similar, he used to travel from the Isle of Wight to train at Kingstan as well. Also very bright, so similar problems.
Wicks is much different. A decent 10 miles could just be the end product of a lot of hard work. I would be more impressed with good performances in the 3k/5k range, and I havnt seen them. This causes me to question either his ability or the quality of the coaching he recieves. Not close enough to know the answer.
Anyway, when has it been Bels policy to produce home grown talent ?
Wicks is more than class - 17:52 after 6 weeks off with a stress fracture and just 3 weeks running. Kris Gauson unlucky - set off too fast and paid for it - but he'll be back!
who is jones? where was miles and blackledge?
Well wasn't Wicks originally WSEH, Gauson a scottish club and Billington I THINK was peterborough-->Newmarket, ran well in first cross-challenge and and then promptly -->Belgrave.
So not sure quite how homegrown they are.
But they'll still pick up a lot from running in a great time with from the last few pages of posts some guys with a pretty good team spirit and lots of running experience.
Beagles manager is doing an awesome job though. Think it's gonna be tough to beat them for a while.
1 Mohammed Farah Newham&E 17:02 = Jermaine Mays Kent Ac 17:21
2 Franck Tickner Wells City 17:03 = P Nicholls Tipton Har 17:21
3 Mark Warmby Newham&E 17:15 = J Ndayisenga Birchfield 17:21
4 Adam Bowden Harrow Ac 17:17 9 Andy Vernon Aldershot, 17:24
5 Angus MacLean Team Soton 17:21 10 Michael East Newham&E 17:25
Surprised that a few young guns didn't run as fast yesterday Anthony Ford 17:41, Phil McGlory 18:08, Dan Augustus 18:18 to name a few.
billington has been coached by a belgrave man since he was 15
Yeah, I know, but he was running for Newmarket and switched to Belgrave very quick!
But I had been told at one point that he was coached by a Belgravian and should have mentioned that!
Do Belgrave have a junior M/LD track group at any of their tracks, just out of interest, not trying to be difficult, I think one of your runners mentioned there was quite a good group coming togehter
I agree with Bryn. Give Goose a break he is obviously a very talented runner judging by the time he clocked yesterday, he is only 17 and it was the first time he has been eligible to run the six stage i think. Who cares if he wears red and yellow socks. It just shows that he enjoys running and that is great because it means that we are less likely to lose him from the sport as he gets older.

No - it shows that the top Northern runners didnt run the Northern relay. Riley, Vernon, Brown, Abyu and Sutton (who did run the Northerns but was crocked) would all have walked into the top 10 legs.
i coasted around the relays as was racing the great south today. We were missing a athlete or 2 so did not want to waste to much.
