I’m thinking Keely has the training/strength to get through this, though she’s had to run three very solid 800s including the flat-out final just minutes ago. But this is bread and butter to her.
I’m less sure that a 60m-focused Dina is going to get around that second lap in under 28.
Since I talked disparagingly, it’s only fair to complete the record…
Dina Asher-Smith split 53.29 (24.48 / 26.81) … not fast, but she didn’t rig as hard as I feared.

People are obsessed with Mu as a what could’ve been” because she never got there to prove them right or wrong so can cling to the idea she would break the world record if only she’d stayed focused. Keely at her best form now wipes the floor with Mu at her best but it’s the “what if” myth.
You forget that Keely has been taking bicarb for the past couple years. That's the biggest reason she's running faster than what Mu did in 2021 and 2022.
What happened with Yemi John? She didn't make it out of her heat, but she's still clearly better than these no-name GB sprinters with Dina and Keeley. Plus, she's run so many good legs for USC.
Yes where is she? I’m pretty confused about the athletes we entered in to this race. Bit of an embarrassment.
DAS said on the BBC she was asked to run, and felt she had to help her country… where there some injuries I wonder?
Or did someone think they were the smartest person in the room, playing 4D chess when in fact everyone else was playing Chequers?

That’s a silly post.
Mu won OG gold + bronze, and WC gold + bronze.
Hodgkinson has won OG gold + silver, and WC silver + silver + bronze.
Score that how you will.
PBs: Mu 1:54.97 (2023), Hodgkinson 1:54.61 (2026).
🤷♂️
Nobody is wiping any floors in this peak vs peak battle.
They are the same age, and if Mu retires today she does so with a 4-1 record against Hodgkinson.
Keely has NEVER won an 800 that Athing was in. (She was second and Athing was third to Moraa in WC 2023.)
Mu has won four races that Keely was in — EVERY other one they’ve read together. (2021 OG, 2021 Pre, 2022 WC, 2023 Pre.)

It’s a pretty meaningless stat when Mu stopped racing / dint even qualify for the championships in the last couple of years. How can keely beat someone who couldn’t even qualify for the champs?
I wonder if that means she has made her sole focus this summer taking down the 43-year-old world record in the women’s 800m. If so, I welcome the decision.
She’s doing the Euros too. And wants to defend her title there.

there seems to be a cult of personality surrounding Kersee's athletes - fans will hear nothing negative about them and assume they can win whatever they want

Mu peaked early. Keeley kept developing. It’s over. Mu is done. Something cracked upstairs and she couldn’t handle competition anymore. That and her arrogance did her in.
